The only thing I could see is the Twins and Mauer agreeing to restructure - either by deferring some of the 69 M left (23 M for the next 3 years) to 10+ years from now or they rework the contract to add a year or 2 and shift some of that 69 M to those extra 2 years to save some $ for the next 3 years. I believe Todd Helton did something similar when the Rockies were contending.

Yeah, that's about the only way to free up some of that money at this point. It sucks to see him regress the way he has.

Dan Haren retiring after this season...always has been one of my favourites for some odd reason that I can't really explain. I think it is because I have had him on so many fantasy baseball teams over the years.

Terrible news. Former A's draft pick Mike Nolan, who was shot 3 weeks ago was declared brain dead on Thursday and passed Friday.
