As predicted they will bring this up with no time to debate or challenge anything in it. I'm just shocked the A's are willing to do this now. From controlling key parts of a $12bn project to now being a renter and likely afterthought on the Strip with no additional revenue opportunities.

I know this was posted a while ago but I 100% agree. NBA is the one that would impact the Knights.

I think the Athletics would do well in Vegas, and an MLS team in Allegiant would also do well without hurting the Knights bottom line (or the Raiders obviously.)

I think Vegas needs another decade of growth before trying to get an NBA team here too.

I know Seattle and Vegas are the favorites for expansion but hopefully Kansas City or St. Louis or somewhere steps in.
If you can get the NHL and NBA to schedule the 14 NBA teams that are in NHL cities strategically with Golden Knights games might be able to offer longer stay sports packages for fans that would come to see one or the other, stay a week to see both their teams.

I don't know that the Raiders would allow a MLS team to play on (their) grass at Allegiant. I don't know that the MLS would allow the team to play on turf. I assumed the (non-Foley) MLS bid planned a new stadium.

Foley wanted to play at Allegiant with MLS and when public funding was being discussed to build it the suitability for MLS also was used as an extra selling point, I think David Beckham even came here and talked to lawmakers.

I think they would convert UNLV's turf to grass, plenty of the top college football teams play on grass (UNLV football isn't valuable at all anyway) and it tends to be easier on joints. The MLS team would probably be on the hook for the upkeep of that new grass year round though.

Stadium renderings released. Looks like the entire Trop site would be developed with the stadium in the back corner.
Yeah and what happens when they build a new hotel? The view is crap. Besides those renderings are total BS if they only get 9 acres. That is far more than 9 acres there, probably close to 20 with what they rendered there. Typical A's, all they do is BS.

The MLS overlap with the NFL season is between August pre-season to early October. So, they can deal with the grass when their season begins in the spring through to the end of the summer.

With grass fields, if you remove them in section and then reassemble them after an event, how long does the grass need to sit before it is suitable for play for a soccer match or football game?

Where the NFL played in England at Tottenheim, they retracted the grass field into 3 section to play on an artificial surface. I recall that there was an article that said they could play soccer on the grass once it was returned to the surface in around 48 hours.

But that is grass in 3 large sections. If you are taking it up in like 20-30 sections since current stadiums are not designed to do it mechanically like Tottenheim, how much more time does that add before a game is played?

Allegiant has a huge pan for the grass that is rolled out into the sunshine or when artificial turf is used for UNLV

Disgusting. I'll never set foot in an A's game again on principle. This was passed on the idea that people are so desperate for baseball that they will take anything. Even if the math doesn't add up nor do the renderings. Not to mention the forever deal not to have public money involved on Strip projects was broken. Good job guys and gals, you just effectively gave money to a casino owner.

I can only hope voters send a strong message to every politician who voted for this.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, this should have the City, County and the States response to the A's

What's next.... Relocation submission to MLB committee, then recommendation to MLB exec/commish. Then stadium authority (next scheduled meeting 8/24) gets involved.

Then bonds. A's have to pony up first $100m before any public funds come into play.

I haven't been in the city in the few months that this A's thing started really taking off, but from outside I don't see why people are making a big deal about the financing. It seems like a decent investment for 30 years of 82+ events a year drawing in likely a few thousand people each time.

Expansion would obviously be better, but assuming relocation has to happen it's either wait or get the A's.

I'm on record saying that baseball would be the most difficult path to pro sports success in Las Vegas for obvious baseball-related reasons, but if it's going to work it's going to work on the Strip.

Amazing how they seem to want to replicate a lot of features found in the Marlins and Rays stadiums with the large sliding windows, prominent nightclubs and translucent room. Cause nothing says success like MLBs Florida franchises.
