Contracts aside, who would you take?
Well this is a new one.
Can we also do Nylander vs Rantanen part 18?
Yeah if you'd like
Those were epic polls.
Lol I must have missed them but Rantanen>Nylander quite easily.
Marner is the better player, but I think Rantanen has the potential to be more versatile in the playoffs due to size and playstyle.
Close but I'll take Marner
It's always been Marner.
Marner easily for me.
Its Mikko, but health is a concern compared to Willie.
Pretty close, really.
I’d say it was a bit of an off year for Rantanen as far as expectations for him go. He had a strong end to the playoffs with 11 points in 7 games against Dallas, so hopefully that carries over to next season. I think a legitimately healthy offseason will do him wonders.
Contracts aside it’s pretty close. Marner gets more points, Rantanen more goals. But Rantanen has been significantly better in the post season.
So I’d go Rantanen.
If we include contracts, I’d go Rantanen by a country mile.
I'll shoot Rantanen the homer vote but they are close.
Close enough where something like size and contract can be the difference maker
Rantanen is better but Marner was drafted higher so theres that
Rantanen pls. He’s a force on the ice
Rantanen. Better all around player, better goal scorer and better in the post season.
Marner, not close.
Just doesn't produce as much.
No one wants to mention actual points?
I mean outside of Rants rookie season their production is pretty similar. Marner had the much better rookie season so that’s a plus for him, but in the last 3 seasons they’ve both average an 84pt pace over 82 games. So in the regular season they’re very comparable players. Than we get to the playoffs and Rantanen blows Marner away with a .34ppg lead over him. So I mean there’s the production between the two.
I know. How dare they steal your move from Matthews threads
Last 3 seasons:
Rantanen 212 points in 197 games (1.08PPG)
Marner 230 points in 223 games (1.03PPG)
Last 3 years Rantanen on average has actually produced at a higher rate. Last season was the first season since 16-17 that Marner produced at a higher rate and that was largely due to Rantanen having an injury plagued season.
As I said, everyone will use everyone's moves. Its hardly "mine"
And as I’ve said. Flip flopping isn’t everyone’s move. And for the handful that it is you could suck it up and be the bigger person. There are just as many if not more leaf fans that do it.
What about pace? Leaf fans love bringing that up
so which is it? Is Matthews an 80 point player and no more or is rantanen have a better offensive season than marner?
Rantanen is better easily.
