Wel, if you traded for Nylander and gave him a big new deal, you'd almost have to trade Voracek or Simmonds - for a RHD defenseman, of course!

Regardless of what they would do, we would have to be insane to trade one of our good defensemen for a winger, even a good one like Nylander. Our defense still isn't fixed  All we have to do is look at the Leafs themselves and ask "How are they going to build a championship defense?" and there are no easy answers for them. We are on our way, but we don't have the wiggle room to **** around with a deal like this. The only people who would want something like this have "Shiny New Toy Syndrome."
It's crazy how some can't see this.

Virtanen is really starting to roll and is a beast to play. Canucks are tough bastards and skilled and fast. Worth the cash.

Canucks have quietly amassed a core of top young players while their stars aged their way out of the league:
Pettersson #5-17
Boeser #23-15
Virtanen #6-14
Horvat #9-13
Goldobin (#27-14 SJ, trade for Jannik Hansen at 2017 TDL, 0-1 1 in 6 PO games, 46g 2-12 14 last season)
Granlund (trade for Hunter Shinkaruk, #24-13, garbage for goldl, erasing a bad draft pick)
Pouliot (trade for Andrey Pedan and 4th rd pick)

They still lack depth, and a quality goaltender but the turnaround has begun.
However, I expect them to fade as the season progresses, they're still a year or two away.
Missing the playoffs 4 of the last 5 seasons helped their drafting.
So did a few smart trades.

There you have it 2nd game in a row, looks like schenn's actually hurt. Maybe he is not made out rubber after all.

He could be a good buy low option for someone who can give him enough usage to squeeze production out of him.

He’s not eligible to pass through waivers so that’s an issue. That’s where playing him right away in those 18 games came back to burn them. He’s tore up the AHL anyway but it would at least buy some time/leverage if they had the option.

Our division is nice and crappy. Right around .500 for almost all the teams. It would be nice to have the best team by a lot in a year or two instead of having the situation in other divisions or with the pens and caps.

New Jersey just isn’t really that good. Even when looking at them on paper it’s not really that impressive. They just don’t have enough high end talent to consistently make up for the rest of the deficiencies there.

Sounds like a team we've had to watch for five years. :sarcasm:
Of course, our farm system isn't ranked 20th or so in the league.
There are worse things than jsut rebuilding, rebuilding to mediocrity and running out of steam.

Reverse dreamboat Taylor Hall sitting on the bench watching his Taylor Hall-cursed team getting b***h-slapped by the Leafs 6-1. Good.
He’s probably the worst Hart winner ever, actually that’s a fact, he won because he team sucked ass and instead of hockey media pointing out the obvious shittiness of the Devils they all bit on the “whats trending right now” horse shit reporting that is passed off as hockey coverage these days
