Not really. He was set to make $900K next year regardless of if was in the NHL or AHL. There’s no guarantee he gets an NHL contract again nonetheless an actual NHL roster spot.

he can easily make up that lost overseas oh in the ahl. Now he has a chance to do better for a guy who has a good amount of nhl experience.

His career is on the rocks. Losing the opportunity to earn $900K isn’t an easy thing to swallow at this point especially considering he’s never been a big earner to begin with.

It’s been speculated Edmonton wanted to free up a contract slot anyway & thus why they bought him out.

then if that is what they wanted to do, they couldn't have just sent him to the ahl.

He would have counted against their 50 contract slots regardless if he was in the NHL or AHL since he was under an NHL contract.
