Outside of Giroux, Voracek, Mason, and potentially O'Reilly, who else do you see making big money on this team in the next 3-5 years?

A lot can happen in 3-5 years so I can't tell you because I don't own a crystal ball but I rather keep my options open in case rather than committing a large contract to a player like ROR who won't be close to worth it.

We'd have to get him on a real discount trade price (which is likely wishful thinking) for me to even consider bringing him in & signing him to a big contract.

Obviously, but it will take time for him to grow into that role. It is an immediate need on the roster. Whether or not they choose an immediate solution was not the point. Merely stating they have bigger issues than the need for another top line LW.

The intelligent move is to allow young players to grow into the roles set for them. It's the only way cups are won and competitors are build. That does not mean the front office will take that route.

I think it's fairly obvious Hextall is content in building this team the right way, and he hasn't done anything that contradicts it yet.

Someone not long ago mentioned Jeff Skinner as a potential trade target.

Not a bad idea, as he's coming off a down season and maybe Carolina would be amenable.

He's definitely a shoot-first LW with speed, & would seem to be a good fit with Giroux and Voracek.

Brayden Schenn I imagine would be the starting point from the Flyers' side.

No thanks, he'd cost too much for someone who can't keep his head up, hence why he's always hurt

No thank you, you're not in the right ball park at all, mason is untouchable, we aren't downgrading and getting ward

I thought the first deal was as bad as it could get, until I saw the second one. Whatever else you think, Yakupov is too value to move up 2 spots in the draft...

True. But, you're also getting rid of a horrible contract. Sure, it's not the fairest deal; however, isn't moving waste even more important for our future?

To put it differently, I was able to trade three terrible contracts without sacrificing any of our draft picks or prospects. The only valued player we lose altogether is Steve Mason and I feel he's slightly overrated and could easily be replaced with Cam Ward and Michal Neuvirth while saving us a ton of cash to sign free agents and get Jakub Voracek under contract for the future.

Not at the cost of taking valuable assets like Mason to get rid of them.

The best course of action is just waiting it out if you can't get a good deal to get rid of them. Vinny might retire, Umberger might get bought out, & MacDonald might improve with a better defense coming up.

Mason is 100% not going anywhere. It's not negotiable.

And just because I'm curious, we trade Mason and sign Neurvirth to be the backup, who is the starter?

Edit - I didn't see Ward included

Still. Not a chance.

I am following your logic, I just think we have different opinions on the impact O'Reilly would have on this team. IMO, he instantly becomes the 3rd best player on this team the day he is traded for. Neither of us have a crystal ball, but most of Morin, Sanheim, Ghost, Hagg, and the 7th pick will be on entry level deals for the next 4-5 years. If they happen to earn big money on their 2nd contracts, it is a great problem to have.

Teams often get hurt by spending money on secondary players. Ryan O'Reilly is far from a secondary player.

I see Krazy Kat has a new challenger for making the least realistic trade proposals.
