Are the Wild Contenders ?

They have won a lot of games this season and are currently second in the NHL. However, they're ranked 24th in corsi. The last cup winners were all top possession teams.

My prediction is they are in the finals against Pittsburgh.

Hope he proves me wrong, but Dubnyk does not have the mental fortitude to win high pressure games. He will let in a deflating softy here and there when the game is on the line.

Just a theory about his clutchness, don't break the torches out.

Yet they're ranked 4th in GF, 2nd in GA, 2nd in goal differential, top 10 in both PP and PK.

Something about their horrible corsi must be working for them.

Did the Bruins and Penguins cup winning teams all have top top corsi/possession rankings?

Yes. Excellent depth, goaltending, and coaching.

Yes ... they are definitely contenders, but great coaching? Boudreau's teams have rarely found an extra gear in the playoffs. He's much like Minnesota's basketball coach. Too much emphasis of the regular season. If anything, coaching might be the Wild's biggest weakness in the playoffs.

How their CORSI ranks once the score effect has been taken into account?

Yes, they are.

But like every other team that will be in the playoffs, if a couple things go wrong, they can be beat by any team they face.

This season Wild's team is very deep and effective. Their own production have started to gain for them and Boudreau's coaching has fitted Wild. Hopefully we might have a great chance this season.

Boudreau doesn't have a great track record in the playoffs, but he's only coached two teams. Could it possibly have something to do with those teams?

I mean, look at Washington, they haven't exactly done much since he left. And even while Boudreau was in Anaheim, you could tell that roster wasn't a cup contending roster.

I want to see how Corsi vs. wins is impacted by teams playing with early leads (hence playing defense for more of the game) and teams that allow higher volumes of shots in low-scoring areas.

They have been close to contenders for a couple of years now but things didn't click the right way. This year things are clicking like crazy

Uh, what? The ducks were a very good team in 2015 and could have just as easily won a cup as the Blackhawks. That was an extremely taxing series on the Blackhawks.

Ok so they were only a very good team one year

and they lost to the Blackhawks

How is that Boudreau's fault at all?

They've got all the pieces to be a champ. However, there is a lot of competition and it ain't easy.

Yet if they lose, everyone will blame Boudreau and call them chokers...because...you know...in hindsight they should have won no matter what.

People love throwing blame more than anything else in this world.

We shall see, but it happened at 2 places. That's a trend ... not a one off.

Well Joel Quenneville had the same kind of situation before going to Chicago and becoming a perennial cup contender/winner.

Your trend doesn't really mean much.

Alain Vigneault has also coached now three teams without a cup. Is that to say the Rangers won't win it because of their coaching weakness?

I diddnt say it was Boudreau's fault. Just saying it's silly to say the ducks were never contenders under Boudreau. Although Q did make some mid series adjustments when the Ducks had the Hawks on the ropes that Bodreau couldn't find an answer for (Kane - Toews - Saad line is a big one).

Not many teams could have an answer for that line. Not sure how you could fault Boudreau for that.
