People are overeating stalock. He is a below average backup. No way , shape or form a steal.

Koskinen is mediocre, inconsistent, and unproven. So is Stalock. One of those guys got a sixth of what the other got. Huh.
Stalock is very proven. He's just proven that he's a backup/fringe AHL starter.

I read the thread, wtf

You mean because he is from Minnesota? Cause that is not a good reason to sign someone who isnt very good

Because in 2 summers, when the expansion draft happens, this guarantees us having a goalie that's eligible for exposure without threat of losing Kahkonen or Dubnyk.

I mean, I'd rather have Stalock than Koskinen. Stalock is a fringe starter but he obviousy wants to stay home in the twin cities and took a haircut

Fringe starter, for what NHL team? AHL fringe starter I'll give you. Other than making nice passes he really doesn't have much going for him.

Considering most thought his career was done after 2016 with the Leafs, it's a good sign.

That is for the team's benefit, yes. Stalock's benefit is the NHL salary if/when he and Kaapo switch places.
of course, i wasnt meaning to try and say you were wrong in some way. Just wanted to make it known what I think is obvious about the signing and thats the extra third year he got, aka expansion draft

I don't think Stalock is in the top 10 of backups in the league and the money he's gotten here reflects that. Sure he probably took a bit less but not that much less.

Stalock is an alright backup to a real #1 goalie so this is a decent contract. Easily moveable too if need be.

I'm guessing he was offered a 1 year deal around 900k/1 million so while he's making 785k per year on this deal, he is locked in for 3 years. Took the security over the chance to make more in the long run, can't say I blame him for that.

Well there are only 31 teams. Top 40 is a reach.

50th (tied) in wins
56th (tied) in sv%
57th (tied) in starts
39th in GAA
2nd (tied) in points
10th (tied) PIM
