But then again the cap is going to stay as it is or dip due to the CAD and if this off season was any sign then UFA contracts won't be as lucrative as before

I would be more reassured of this being a meaningful obstacle to a stupid contract if the Sbisa, Miller, Sutter, and Dorsett deals hadn't happened...

If we're going to sign him, and it seems inevitable, I'd rather give him more money over term. I hope it's not an 8x8. I'd rather it'd be something by 4/5 years. It's not realistic but i'm not sure I want to be playing him 8mil per into his mid 30's.

It's likely not going to dip...the 5% inflator the PA can use would likely stop that.

The top free agents will always get paid and if Lucic is a top free agent then he will get paid.

If he isn't a top free agent then the "plan" of acquiring significant core pieces during free agency doesn't apply to him.....though benning still gives him a huge contract I'd bet.

But Jyrki pointed out what I was trying to point out in my first post....he was asked a question and answered it just as any player would. A dream to play for your childhood favourite/hometown team is an oft recited desire when one talks about fave teams growing up and having a career in the sport.

Just look at how well things have turned out for Toronto when it comes to actually being able to sign those guys. More often than not they chase the money and best opportunity. Even in the case of the hometown discounts Gillis would get it was because the player was chasing opportunity.

Make my day.
To sum up:

-Lucic might hit free agency
-Like every other kid who follows or plays hockey he dreamed of playing for his hometown/favourite team. Shockingly such a thing gets mentioned when talking to that hometown radio station!

-concentrating on LA stuff. Excited to play for Sutter. Really likes the LA roster. Excited to be a King.

Nothing in that article (didn't listen to interview) really suggests that this is some sort of done deal. IF he has a good year and likes LA he'll likely re-sign with the Kings and if not he'll have several strong UFA offers. He may take a bit of a hometown discount but either way the deal he gets is likely to be huge. As stated above...a deal we are likely to talk about for years.

I don't see as much in it either. What is supposed to say, "No". 101 never say never, why cut down on options and leverage when it comes to y your next contact? Why reject a fan base, not good for your PR in that area especially when it is your home town.

I'm not saying he won't come here, Benning has been courting him, so it is a chance.

I'd welcome Lucic back to Vancouver if he really wants to play here. He's the top pwoer-forward top 6 player in the league. We want Horvat and Virtanen to become that type of player.

Lucic would make anyone on his line play more aggressive. Guys like Baertschi and Vey wouldn't be as scared to initial contact when you got him on your line.

Baertschi isn't scared of contact......

Just look at his goal to tie it up at 5 against the oilers.

He initiates contact on 6'4" Musil

I agree, we'll see how he plays this year and if there can be a reasonable contract why not? It still appears to me that all of the so-called assets that he has jettisoned this past year all look like hot garbage to me, except maybe for Lack who is really a quality backup more than anything.

If the Kings aren't in a playoff position by the deadline and have failed to extend him, he could land here earlier than next offseason.

Imagine if canucks signed Lucic, and still had kassian.

Lucic, Virtanen, Kassian, Horvat, would be a difficult team to play against to say the least.

Main thing I'll be noting is his footspeed.

5 or 6 years could be possible.

I don't think he'll get the high watermark $$$ many are claiming.

I really hope he re-signs with LA. We don't need any more overrated overpaid players.

Plus personally I wouldn't even want to watch the team with that slime on it. Not sure if a nut shot specialist who gives out death threats in the handshake line is who we need to put us over the top.

Bleh. If this were the 2011 version of Lucic we were talking about, I'd love it. Unfortunately, it's not.

And the chances of Benning not somehow buggering up and stupidly overpaying are probably somewhere in the low zeros. So no to Messier v2.0.

Don't worry the intangible from dorsett prust and sbisa will offset the negative influence from lucic, its fine :sarcasm:
