Both Players are excellent but this should be Marner as of right now

Avs fan that lives near Toronto and watches a ton of leafs games. I really think this ones Marner, points don’t really tell the whole story Marner impressed me more on a game by game basis.

To me Mackinnon + Rantanen versus Matthews + Marner is a much better question as I think Mackinnon is better than Matthews by about the same margin Marner is better than Rantanen.

This is one where the lazy AINEC crowd look like complete tools on either side and that in itself is AINEC

lol, no. Playoffs and contracts makes this not close.

Amazing the Leaf's seem to consistently pay a couple million more than comparable athletes who sign with other teams. Perhaps its a fee the Leaf's players charge for giving up a chance at a cup. I guess when you sell out regardless if you never win in the playoffs cost isn't a big issue.

He literally did the last 2 seasons
94 > 87?

Marner is a year younger and has scored more points in less games. By any honest measure, Marner is the more impactful player.

MacKinnon > Tavares
MacKinnon > Kadri
MacKinnon > Bozak

You can argue Mac broke out two years ago but prior to that Mitch played with Tyler Bozak. Clear advantage Rantanen as far as centres go, across the board.

Be honest.

Pretty close one, I'll admit.

But in two more career games played, Marner has 15 more points.

Marner, for the win.

:)

Marner is a playoff beast he just had one bad series. He dominated the OHL playoffs to the tune of winning the MVP, had a good world juniors, had what I would consider the second most dominant recent memorial cup performance second only to Mackinnons, and was great in his first two playoff series.

Rantanen also just had a good playoff series but if I had to bet which one of these players will eventually win a Conn Smythe I would pick Marner (I think he’s more likely to win over Matthews as well, just a feeling I have about him). Marner is the Leafs’ Mackinnon IMO, I think he will have more playoff heroics than any other player on the team over the next 4-5 years where the Leafs will be perennial contenders.

Has rantanen signed yet? Didn’t think so. Maybe you should wait until he signs instead assuming marner will be paid a couple million more than him

I agree with this, but I really can't see Rantanen signing for more than 10 mil.

I'd rather Marner, but I'll be damned if I pay $10.9m for him.

But strictly in the scenario where I travel back in time, become the Coyotes GM in 2015, and they still have the #3 pick, I go Marner.
