I get that. But this wasn't about who's the best this was about who would you draft. And I would draft all day long let's say the fifth best who plays rather than the best who's not playing.

I’d still draft him 2nd. Yes he’s had 1 season where he missed significant time, but he’s hardly “injury prone”.

Right now me too. But it's not so clear anymore. Guy's got to show he can stay healthy.

Two high ankle sprains doesn't signal injury prone to me... if he is, Rants is one high ankle sprain away from being as injury prone...

Eichel has missed an extra 5 games to injury per season as Mackinnon has, so that means that Mack has issues staying healthy right? Clearly not, he’ll be fine health wise.

So... you'd draft Wheeler over Malkin in a redraft?

Malkin has played 775 games out of 870 games. He's missed 11% of games in his career.
Wheeler has played 770 games out of 788 games. He's missed 2% of games in his career.

Malkin has basically missed 5x more games than Wheeler throughout his career.

Wheeler was a hell of a pick if you look back at it... he just noped the whole Arizona situation. IIRC he wasn't even predicted in the 1st by most, and was a top 5 pick and in a re-draft would go 3rd. That was a true balls on the table pick.

"We just felt that this young man has tremendous upside," Gretzky said. "He's a tremendous athlete. We were very comfortable with picking him at number five. We kind of took a bit of a risk, but we believe he has tremendous upside."

Really? Didn't look that up. Thought his numbers were not so good becouse of injuries. So he just really isn't that good. He is number 6 for me then.

Who goes ahead him then? I genuinely can’t think of anyone I’d take ahead of him currently other than Mcdavid.

If things go the way they have been this season I would take M.D, Provorov, Rantanen, Barzal, Werenski before him.

And by the way Buffalo ain't Arizona bad roster wise. Eichel, O'Reilly, Reinhart, Kane(just got moved), Ristolainen... I think last season they had one of the best PP:s in the league and so on.

Eichel must do better.

Edit: but like I said right now he would still be my second pick but it's getting close.

Interesting... I need to see Barzal do this again before putting him ahead of Eichel. He’s lucky he has Tavares to take all the attention away from him, let’s see how Barzal does when he has to face top competition night in night out before he’s a top 5 player in that draft.

Provorov I can understand, but Rantanen and Werenski don’t warrant being ahead of Eichel yet.

When he's healthy he more than pulls his weight. His only concern is injuries.

ROR and Risto are the only other good players in Buffalo. Reinhart and Kane are not good players for their roles. Eichel has had 3 really solid seasons, honestly 2 of the 3 are/were significantly better than MacK's 2nd-4th seasons.

Yes. And Mac was mostly crap too.

Edit: To be honest I don't how Mac played before last season. Last season was the first one I followed Avs. I watched 70-75 games but before that none.

So... stats are not everything, not even close. Even before this season, the only two players you'd argue to go ahead of MacK would have been Barkov or Jones (and they are still elgit arguments)... not somebody like Monahan.

No I'm not arguing about Mac or his draft. Just said that Mac was bad last season before Mikko (and Sven) picked him up and they played the last twenty games together, Mac started to find the real center inside of him and they were good.

I remember watching that draft and ya Wheeler wasnt supposed to go in the first let alone top 5 from what I recall the TSN guys were saying. I think the yotes also drafted Tikhonov later in that first round lol.

Kinda funny with Eichel, both high ankle sprains happened almost the exact same way--a really awkward tumble to the ice where his leg gets caught in a funny position under him.

If he suffers another major injury next season then yes, he's entering Pascal Leclaire territory. But for now I'm holding off on the label.

Supertähtien kastiin noussut Rantanen uskoo pystyvänsä parantamaan – ”Viime kausi jätti sopivasti nälkää”

Superstar Mikko Rantanen thinks he can get even better - "Last season left me hungry"

– Oma pelillinen kehittyminen on suurin syy pistesaldon parantumiseen.

- The biggest reason for the amount of points I got was that I got better as a player. Of course the fact that I got to play in a good team and in a good line with Gabriel Landeskog and Nathan MacKinnon had an effect to my points. It was very important that we found the chemistry right away because no one can do well alone, Rantanen says.

- We agreed on a lot of things in advance and as we got more games under our belt, you could always know what the other guy is going to do with the puck and where he wants me to go to. As the season got older our teamwork got better all the time, the winger continues.

Nuori joukkueemme varmasti asettaa tavoitteet entistäkin korkeammalle, Rantanen vakuuttaa.

- We did well in the regular season and in the playoffs we managed to put up a fight, but of course last season left us hungry for the next season. We'll have pretty similar team roster wise as last season. Our young team is surely going to set up the goals even higher next season, Rantanen assures.

Summer training has been going well

- I have been healthy the whole summer. It has been nice to be at Turku as the weather has been so great (It's been non stop +30 celsius and for 1-2 weeks now..). I've been working at the gym, but the main focus has been on getting faster and to work on my body control and balance, Rantanen tells us.

- My body feels a lot better than how it felt last summer. Also Hannu Rautala (his summer coach) has given me feedback that my results and working has been on a higher level than before. It gives me self-confidence, but I'll see the real results of my training when I hit the ice in August.

Goals will be on a high level in next season

- We as a team, but also me personally have high expectations about doing better than we did last season. We want to make it to the playoffs and do well there. We're not satisfied to get there, we also have to get results there, Rantanen says.

– On aika turha lähteä miettimään mitään pistetavoitetta.

- It's pointless to set up any goals point total wise. I hope to grow as a player in the summer, and if I can play better overall, we have a chance to do even better. We want to go one game and day at a time, Rantanen states.

- I don't know anything about the upcoming contract negotiations, my agent probably knows better. I think we're not in a hurry in this matter either. I still have one year left on my old contract, so I don't think too much about my new contract yet, Rantanen says.

- It's a really nice place (Denver). The whole organization and the people there have been very nice to me. I've enjoyed my time very much and I have no desires to leave Denver, Rantanen says.

There you go, hope I didn't butcher anything. He says that he's working on his balance, lets hope that it helps our favorite Bambi
