Modano and pretty easy choice for me having watched him most of his career. However i expect Sundin to win this poll for the sole reason of the amount of Toronto fans here on HF compared to Stars fans.

When in doubt blame it on the Leaf fans. Leafs fans could also claim that their own player loses more often then not because of the Leafs haters

Both great players and you can't go wrong but Modano the clear winner here.

Sundin was great regular season player but in the playoffs he left much to be desired...and international play doesn't matter.

Modano showed up in the postseason. Sundin was usually a ghost. That matters.

Maybe you should actually look at Sundin's post season stats.

16 points in 17 games in 1999.

13 points in 11 games in 2001 against the two best teams in the Eastern Conference.

82 points in 91 games overall.

He could have been better but was hardly a "ghost."

Very close IMO. Glad the poll results reflect this. I'd give the edge to Sundin because of his size and the fact he put up a higher career ppg despite spending multiple years playing with some pretty crappy wingers.

I say they're about even.

Modano peaked a little higher but its hard to knock Mats' longevity.

Modano putting up those numbers while playing in Ken Hitchcock's system during the prime of his career should speak volumes about his talent. I'm taking Modano.

Close but I think that objectively Modano was the better two way player. Just didn’t play as long. Both great players.

Very close poll, deservedly so. Modano accomplished more in the NHL, while Sundin's international resume is obviously superior (read: Sweden > USA at the past few Olympics )

Both players top their respective all-time national records in numerous categories.

Went with Modano, more well-rounded player.

Except that modano played on a high salary team with other legendary players like hull, belfour, nuwiendyke, langenbrunner, hatcher, lethinen, zubov

Sundin played with Hoglund and washed up renberg

What’s so legendary about Nieuwendyk and Langenbrunner? They didn’t even play with Modano. I wouldn’t call Hatcher or Zubov “legendary” as well....I feel your over emphasizing that term.

Let’s not act like Sundin never played with top talent. His most productive year saw him playing along side guys like Sakic and Nolan.

Modano had a past prime Hull and defensive specialist Lehtinen on his line, and still put up great numbers. Sure those Stars teams were great, but your taking credit away Fromm Modano in that regard.

Oh please on average Dallas had way better players than sundins toronto had.

I am sure modano would win a cup with Renberg and Hoglund as linemates
