He’s actually more of a 4th D. And he’s Detroit’s beloved. His dad’s a fan favourite there and his family is loved there. Having those fans there and his family living there would be A. Motivating to him; and B. Easy on him, because he has someone to take care of his kid (his parents), who would also be raised seeing his/her grandparents. That would lead to C. Good performances, because he’s happy there and has less to worry about.

Now, let’s look at the benefits for the Habs getting Mike Green:
- Star power
- Better Weber replacement (hard slap shot)
- Alzner playing alongside former teammate.
- Alzner making his self useful alongside former teammate (he has room to do his thing)
- Mentor and idol for Mete (they’re both offensive defence-men unlike Shea Weber)

Petry could potentially be a top 2 D. No one is etched as a go-to right-hander in Detroit, so if he outplays DeKeyser, it’s all his

Green is injured, a UFA and worse than Petry.

I have no idea why Wings fans think Holland wouldn't do this aside from the fact that Montreal would never offer it.

Petry is the superior overall defenseman by a large margin, on a reasonable contract with term but not term that makes him negative value and he's a Michigan boy.

This truly is a place that will claim the other teams player sucks and their player is the best no matter what.

Not that this thread is going anywhere, but it is pretty well known that Detroit management didn't like Petry and had zero interest in him when he was available a few years ago. Who knows if things have changed since then, but they wanted nothing to do with Petry a few years ago.
