He was a shade over 40 points last year. Seems like it was premature last year too.
His 5v5 production definitely puts him as a first line winger. He's not the type of guy you build your first line around, but he's got the toolset to compliment a first line very nicely.

He's a particularly nice fit with high skilled, high IQ players like Gaudreau and Aho.

flames got rekt in that trade. they went from bubble team to also ran with 1 trade.
I think it was a pretty good all around trade that helped both teams.

Lindholm and Ferland are comparable, slight edge to Lindholm because he's younger and more versatile.

Hanifin is definitely more valuable than Hamilton IMO.

But Fox has the potential to be the best player in the deal, which is fair compensation for Carolina giving up the better assets.

im sorry Hamilton is better . Calgary gave up a 50pt pp qb. those don't grow on trees. I know it was only 1 game but the Calgary pp looked horrific without Hamilton. 0 for 7. I don't think hanifin will ever be as good as hamilton

He’s a solid player but he’s no first liner.

The trade really does depend on what Fox becomes.

Because Lindholm and Hanifin are much better assets when you consider contracts, then Ferland and Dougie are.

Ferland’s not some Simmonds level stud power forward, but he is a pretty good complimentary player who can play up and down the lineup.

More importantly, he’s exactly what the Canes needed. Between adding RBA as coach, and then adding Ferland, Svechnikov, Foegele to the winger group, they are a considerably more high-impact team than they’ve been in a long time.

That may have more to do with Bill Peters but I do agree Hamilton is better today than hanifin.
OP seems to have a bias against Hamilton for some reason.

Not sure how you could dislike Hamilton's game yet think Hanifin is better. Hamilton doesn't look completely incompetent in his own end for much of the game, and he out produces Hanifin in the offensive end.

Hanifin is still mostly hype. He has all the tools, but he still has a ways to go to reach his potential.

That might be true at some point in the future, but not now. Your American player bias is showing here.

Hamilton was not on the PP for most of his time here. He became part of it last year, and Calgary's PP was horrible. I wouldn't read too much into it, though. Our PP issues go way beyond one player.

Regardless of what you think of the players right now, Ferland (1 season) and Hamilton (3 seasons) will be UFAs much sooner than Lindhom and Hanifin. That's something that goes into value.

You have that backwards. Hamilton has a better shot and that's where it ends.

I know I'm in the minority but Hamilton is extremely overrated. There's a reason he's already on his 3rd NHL team.

What do you think Hanifin does exactly?

Can't pass. Doesn't actively defend. He can skate fast, and jumps into every offensive play.

Don't see any defence in his game.

Hanifin wasn't able to keep his head above water defensively in a sheltered, 3rd pairing role last season. He has issues with defensive awareness and plays a soft brand of hockey in his own zone. I like his potential to improve, but right now, he's very raw still on that side of the puck.

For him to be "unbelievably better" defensively than Hamilton, Dougie would have to be bottom-pairing caliber... in the AHL. I don't have a huge sample size of watching him extensively to draw from, but I haven't seen anything that would lead me to believe that's the case.

EDIT: And this isn't post-trade bashing to feel better about the deal. I think Hanifin has the skillset to be where Hamilton is right now in a few years. I'm still bullish on his long-term upside.

Hamilton is better than hanifin.

Lindholm is better than ferland.

Everyone should agree with that

No question.

Looking like a trade that's working out great for both sides. Very happy to see Ferland and Hamilton are doing well in Carolina so far. And I'm THRILLED with Lindholm and Hanifin so far as well

Hanifin has been a stud so far, 3D playing the PK. Has been a beast. He looks better than Hamilton did at his age.

Lindholm just has a monster night. Playing with Mony and Johnny... 3 points, two big goals and lead the team in ice time.

Hope Ferly and Dougie are working out for Canes folks, because I do this deal 10/10 if the first two games are any indication of what we’re getting.
