So, your solution is to go play games with 6 defensemen + injured inapt Kempny as a 7D heathy scratch? If I am looking at CapFriendly correctly Kempny is currently counted towards the cap so does it matter?

Exactly. And if you want to have seven ready to play defensemen you have to LTIR Kempny. Otherwise it is a 23 man impossible roster. They are sending waiver exempt players to AHL between games to bank enough space for 22man roster.
I believe there is no chance to field 23man roster.

I have no solution but I'm pretty sure the Caps will have one extra forward and one extra D come Wednesday. And I don't think they will let Kempny play if he is not good to go. Seigenthaler was a paper transaction to bank cap space.
Carlson/Kempny
Orlov/Jensen
Seigenthaler/Gudas
Lewington
That is exactly my question. Is Kempny ready? What is his situation? We have no answer yet. IF he is not ready AND IF we want to have 7 healthy D and not 6, we have to LTIR Kempny.
Reminder that you have to miss a minimum of 10 games or 30 days to be listed on LTIR.
I think he was trying to say that Kempny missed the first three games already this season so 10+3 would be 13. But I thought they could retroactively count those 3 games towards the 10 game mark if they wanted to?It doesn’t roll over between seasons.
They can. Teams retroactively place players on LTIR all the time.I think he was trying to say that Kempny missed the first three games already this season so 10+3 would be 13. But I thought they could retroactively count those 3 games towards the 10 game mark if they wanted to?
Had just asked this in another thread.Reminder that you have to miss a minimum of 10 games or 30 days to be listed on LTIR.

Almost seems worth it at this point for the cap savings
LTIR cap space doesn't bank. It would let them exceed the cap now, but not after Kempny returns.
Letting them exceed the Cap now would allow them to bring MF42 back and put Lewy back in the nacho booth or Hershey until the LTIR expires, right? So its not entirely unimportant they they aren't doing it.
Regardless, I think they want Kempny back in the lineup ASAP, and he's been practicing in full, so its coming soon.
Yes, LTIR would allow that. The question is if 1-2 games of Fehervary over Lewington is worth 6 more games without Kempny.
If Kempny was our best dean at times last season that means our d core is in a world of hurts. Not disagreeing with you though.I think I answered that question... the Caps want Kempny back ASAP, probably next game, not tonight.
At times last year Kempny was our best defensemen and his loss was huge. I think we all want him back as soon as he's ready.

I don't think Kempy can keep this offensive pace up, do you?
Where do you think he falls this year? Somewhere in the .5 points per game pace for the year?

I think that its very possible that he does. Reirden has turned up the throttle on Carlson's game to great success. Now teams are game planning 74 and opening up ice for Kempny. Kempny has skills. He is not a stay at home specialist. He's not even a defensive specialist. He is just a puck moving, mobile defenseman who is not as good at that stuff as Carlson is and therefore gets the stay at home duty
