BTW here is the Memorial Cup.

1297561079940_ORIGINAL.jpg

The trophy was originally known as the OHA Memorial Cup and was donated by the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) in 1919 to be awarded to the junior champion of Canada. From its inception until 1971, the Memorial Cup was open to all Junior A teams in the country and was awarded following a series of league, provincial and regional playoffs culminating in an east-west championship. The three-league tournament format began in 1972 when the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association divided the Junior A rank into two tiers, naming the Memorial Cup as the championship of the Major Junior level.

The Memorial Cup was proposed by Captain James T. Sutherland during World War I, who wanted to create a trophy as a memorial to remember the OHA's players who died during the war. When the trophy was created, it was dedicated in honour of the soldiers who died fighting for Canada in the war. It was rededicated to honour all soldiers who died fighting for Canada in any conflict during the 2010 tournament.

Wow did trucks actually ever look like that? It looks like the friggin Oscar Meyer Weinermobile.
They were known as Labatt's Streamline Beer Trucks. They had a fleet of them over they years in different models.

This one's been restored and makes the vintage car show rounds - it was the one in the parade.

Here is a 1994 CTV News broadcast of the Labatt's streamliner truck restoration.

Andy why? It was all about getting around the rules prohibiting advertising.

Motoring Memories: The Labatt Streamliners, 1937-1947

Although Prohibition ended in Ontario in 1927, beer advertising continued to be banned in the media. Brewers sought legal ways to keep their names in front of the public, and one of the most imaginative came from the Labatt Brewing Company of London, Ontario: Labatt’s “Streamliner” tractor-trailers.

In the 1930s, Labatt changed from shipping beer by rail to hauling beer by road. Needing a new fleet of large trucks, they decided to combine highway delivery with mobile advertising. They wanted more than the drab, rectangular haulers then in use so they conceived the Labatt Streamliner as a stylish rolling billboard.

Labatt turned to Count Alexis de Sakhnoffsky, a Russian-born Count who escaped to France following the revolution. After studying art and engineering he became art director for Belgian custom coach builder Van den Plas. He emigrated to the United States in 1928 to style everything from American Austins to supercharged Auburns.

Sakhnoffsky was engaged to design the Streamliner in 1935, and ultimately designed four generations. Although all were ahead of their time, the last one of 1947 was the most dramatic.

1- 0 for Val d'Or over London at the end of the first.

Mantha with a good defensive play he transitions, rushed up ice and scores and then a post.

McCarron has pretty much zero hockey IQ. Can't believe where he went in the draft.

Was he the one who cut in from the wing on a broken two on one then proceeded to stop skating, not pay attention the wide open teammate on the other side, glide to an angle, and shoot a weak shot?

I facepalmed on that play.

Yes. Marner was completely wide open on that play.

After 2 it remains 1-0.

London out shooting Val d'Or 33-14 but goaltender Antoine Bibeau is standing in there.

Bibeau is stealing this game so far. On the performance of the skaters, Val d'Or don't deserve to be tied, let alone winning.
