His max value was this past TDL. I’d be surprised if he’s traded before the season or early into it given he’s going to be a pending UFA next summer. Teams, unless desperate, aren’t going to give up much for a guy who may bolt after spring.

As I expect us to not be in the playoff hunt, his value will increase as we close in on the 2019 TDL. Of course, a complete disaster scenario is if he goes into February with like 10 goals. We’d be lucky to get a second rounder for him in that case.

I think the whole sign and trade ship has sailed.

He must be thrilled to play with the Habs next season.

Exactly. Not only is he going to lose value the more Bergevin waits, it's going against that whole "fixing the attitude in the room" Marc seemed so fond of. There's no logic in anything he does.

This is now the benchmark for trading Pacioretty:
2019 - 2nd rounder
2020 - 3rd & 6th rounders
Propect Cliff Pu (3rd rounder from 2016)

I'd have not been happy with that return. Hopefully he rebounds and we can get top dollar for him at the TDL

When did Jeff Skinner become as good as Pacioretty?

One is one of the league's most consistent goal scorers the last 6-7yrs

The other is one of the league's most inconsistent goal scorers the last 6-7yrs.

I don't disagree, but how Habs brass as mismanaged this situation has left them in a weak trade position. So I do expect something similar as it sets the structure of a deal for Patches. Also, Skinner is 3 yrs younger.

Patches is better than Skinner, but still.

I wouldn't be pissed if we got a 1st and someone like Pu for Pac, although I liked a good bit when watching Mete. But I wouldn't compare their value, as I would assume the Habs and Pac would want whatever team is interested in trading for him to work out a deal either before the trade or have a handshake deal done so that it's part of his trade value. If Pac would agree to a reasonable deal, and not say 8 * 7 but maybe something like 6 * 7, it should up his value a good bit.

Skinner has more goals over the past 3 years and is younger. A similar return for Max should be expected. Probably smart to wait until the deadline and hope he has a good season to maximize the return

If market value for Pacioretty is near Skinner than I think I'd much rather re-sign him. At the very least, I echo the sentiment that we are a strong hold until the deadline (or somebody cracks and offers up a 1st +).

Skinner had a NMC. He refused being traded to a bunch of teams. Teams that were probably willing to offer more than what Buffalo paid for.

That is not something holding the Habs back. More teams can be involved in dealing for Max.

What if Max were to get injured though? There is too much risk with having him go into this season in a habs jersey, he is also going to be a ufa next year and teams will pay less for him as a rental. He should have been traded by the deadline last season but Bergevin probably didn't want to do it because he felt like we still had a chance to make it.

and 4 years ago Skinner had 18 g and 31 pts. Since the lockout, he's had 140g 248 pts in 391 games, (33, 18, 28, 37, 24).

Pac since the lockout has, 158g 295 pts in 380 games (39, 37, 30, 35, 17)

Pac makes 1.225M less in cap hit and 1M less in salary.
