I’m not that’s true when considering Boxing is a worldwide sport and hockey is pretty much only popular in Canada.
You're right that Boxing is a worldwide sport, and a great sport at that..but here in the states less people follow boxing than hockey. They both have their fans, hockey is more popular here.Boxing gets the draws and attention on the big fights but not much the rest of the time.

I said I found it funny and you called me disrespectful for it.

And now you say I’m the one policing other people’s reactions?

He called Max Kellerman disrespectful. Max Kellerman is getting on national TV and making giant blanket statements. Now he's a hot take specialist who's primary sport is BOXING, so less and less people care about what Max Kellerman has to say daily.

Your opinion isn't what people are opining on. I can honestly say, unlike Max Kellerman, that nobody really cares about your posting on HFBoards. Seriously, no one cares about my posting either. It's crazy that one of us could die and no one on this forum would notice for months, until finally someone was like "Wow, I haven't seen Ezekial post in 3 months, I wonder why?" And they still wouldn't know I'm dead.

NHL has no tv deal with ESPN so they bash it every chance they get. Nothing new.

When I was younger it used to bother me, but with the rise of NHL Network and NBC Sports and I'm more than content to avoid ESPN altogether. Doesn't look like I'm missing much.
Rumor has it NHL is talking w ESPN once NBC contract expires.

Hockey is a niche sport in the states but it’s growing and a lot of people care about hockey down south.

Empty arenas in South Florida and Arizona. Carolina was empty until they started winning. I drive Uber in Vegas (well I did before Pandemicorama) and have always asked Carolina visitors if they are canes fans. Not a single affirmative answer yet.

I would love to see that a lot of people care about hockey down south, but I can't. Unless you're from Canada and "Down south" means South of the USA-CAN border.

Teams with decades of poor management and barely any hope of a playoff appearance, let alone a deep run, have bad attendance? Well gosh....

Now do Tampa, Nashville, San Jose and Dallas

Ottawa struggles to fill its arena. Guess it struggles up north too, right?

Honestly, why is the NBA popular? The playoffs are so predictable. Has an 8th seed ever beaten a 1 seed? There is no excitement there, where as with the NHL anybody can beat anybody come playoffs.

I’d rather watch freaking disc golf highlights then an NBA game.

It is certainly a major sport. Kellerman doesn't know what he's talking about. The issue is that it's not popular in certain areas and many teams are eking by, which is why I strongly believe that the NHL should be downsizing. We'll see how Seattle reacts to having a hockey team, but expansion was really unnecessary. I mean REALLY unnecessary. It would've been much more simple to relocate a team there. I mean the NHL has/are going to have more teams than the NBA, which is a more popular league.

Look at the yearly attendance rates for some of these teams. They're not improving and nothing is changing anytime soon. I'm obviously not going to mention team names because I don't want to infuriate my brethren here, but the idea of expansion when hockey is a distant fourth in popularity is ridiculous.

Personally speaking, I know the Rangers, even though they have one of the largest fan bases in hockey will never ever ever surpass the Yankees, Mets, Giants, Jets, and Knicks in popularity. It just won't happen. The region will always care more about basketball, baseball, and football than they will about hockey.

And New York is essentially the canary in the coal mine because the Rangers are year in and year out the most valuable and profitable franchise in the National Hockey League. And yet, despite that and despite that they have a top-5 fanbase as far as quantity goes, they are sixth in popularity in the region because hockey is not a popular sport in the US and in NYC itself.

ESPN doesn't know hockey because they don't cover it.

Why doesn't ESPN cover hockey? Because nobody cares about hockey.

They cover WWE more then hockey

I mean the playoff format for the NBA is basically the same as it is for hockey. Sure, playoff hockey is more exciting, but playoff basketball is great as well.

But yes, you're right. It is top heavy, especially since team success is really dictated by what stars that team has.

Every ESPN show is the same. One person is reasonable and the other one says outlandish things they don’t actually believe to get people riled up.

They started that model around 2006 when I watched it for the last time. I don’t know why anyone would continue to waste brain cells on these shows. People love something to be outraged about I guess.

Guy you replied to even subconsciously knows that this is true when he wrote about Carolina improving attendance now that they've been winning. But I still just don't understand why the teams in Arizona and Florida aren't doing well! :sarcasm:
