Playing on the leafs is a much more favourable situation than playing with McDavid. If he ever does win a rocket his percentages will be inflated, that’s how you win a rocket by having a great season.

No way is the Leafs a more favourable situation than playing with McDavid. The transition play of the defense and depth scoring are the two biggest issues on the Oil and McDavid helps eliminate both when on the ice. Matthews played with Johnsson/Marleau and Kapanen last year. That's a huge downgrade at forward. And while career years tend to come with inflated percentages, Matthews has the potential to be a 50-50 player with regularity, which Draisaitl just doesn't.

Are you serious right now? Matthews has the potential to put up 50-50 and Draisaitl doesn’t? When Draisaitl actually put up 50-50? You understand how ridiculous that sounds right?

So we are going to ignore the games Matthews has missed a lot of games?

BUT I believe Matty has the two way game in him, but needs to bring it some more to be on the same level as barkov in that department.

Last year Matthews had a 1.07 PPG... Barkov had a 1.17. Even without the missed games Barkov still easily outscores him. Then you factor in his defensive play (which you admitted Barkov was superior at)...and there's really no argument to be made.

The fact that people don’t understand the difference between Matthews putting up 50 vs Draisaitl putting up 50 is mind blowing.

its because any decent player playing with McDavid should put up big #'s. Untill L.D can put up big #'s on his own he will never get the level of respect you want him to get.
Meh, you can make the same argument about Matthews in Toronto. You can't say he doesn't benefit from both playing with Marner and Tavares and having other teams have matchup issues at 5v5 when he isn't playing with them.

Let's not forget the benefit he gets from playing with Morgan Rielly, thats not an argument I hear enough about. The last time an Oilers dman put up 70+ points must be Paul Coffey

Voted Barkov but could have gone with Matthews too. Drai is great also, but bit behind in my books.

Another center, who couldn't get his team into the playoffs...

But a healthy Matthews, with his shooting arsenal, and he is growing as a playmaker, he would or at least could be 1B to McDavid.

Matthews isn't anywhere close to being worthy of being mentioned in the same breath as McDavid. The gap between the two is absolutely enormous.

Maybe he can try and catch up to Kucherov and MacKinnon first. That's also a stretch.

Matthews defence is very very underrated

I don’t think so. Maybe relative to Barkov whose defense is very very overrated.

You could answer all of your questions by re-reading his post and making note of the part where he said “with regularity”. You’re confused here because you ignored it.

Exactly. Leon is riding shotgun with a generational superstar.

How is Matthews is a generational super star when he cannot even put up 90+ points while carrying a line?

Every year Leafs fans do the same thing. Matthews gets a good start, proclaim is as good as McDavid (TSN will goes as far as calling him the best player in the world), and then he falls off. You think that by now that people would learn but here we are.

Very hard choice here though. Barkov and Draisaitl has accomplished more at this time and Draisaitl has proven chemistry with McDavid. I take Draisaitl but if the Oilers had a better team it could be different.

Ever consider that you might be biased?

Do you believe Ray Ferraro is qualified and objective? Is he allowed to have positive opinions? Because when he’s got negative opinions on Jake Gardiner, Nikita Zaitsev, William Nylander, Nazem Kadri etc they’re all considered genuine?

I guess you’re saying it’s only relevant if you agree?

Are Trotz, Pastrnak, Barkov etc all biased Leaf homers, too?

Why does it upset you so much? Most wouldn’t spend much energy on something that wasn’t even a debate.
