Duchene will be traded at the TDL. Makes sense for the Sens to recoup assets. He will be in demand. Sens in rebuild and no reason to pay 7 to 8 million per right now. Shame the Sens went from a SC contender to this.

All signs point to Sens and Brisson working out a long term deal.

If you believe the Sens can win with him going forward fine. Money talks but at some point players want to win. Teams have cap room to add this off season. Cap at 83 million gives some teams who are close to add a top player. Hell even the Pens like him and will be a player but teams like Boston, Habs will be major players for him.

What's the 2018 version of Ryder + Halak + 2nd?

Danault + Lindgren + 2nd?

Any Habs fan care to chime in?

You're talking about the team that put a condition in the EK trade to keep him out of the Eastern Conference. Dorion isn't allowed to trade in the division.

lol I don't think Zack Smith and Domi should be close to eachother until their next game

waivers! waivers! waivers!

Bottomline, people don't know the value of the habs players, from them all our players are straight shit except domi and kotka.

The deal is fair, but doesn't make any sense from both team. Again, people don't give a good value to our players. just look at plekanec return vs what those armchairs gm said " plekanec gonna give you a 5th". they also don't look at advanced stats and they mostly only look at offensive points.

Most of montreal players are 200 ft players, Danault, Shaw, Lekh, etc. ya they won't score that much but they are worth a lot more than what people think.

it's like the Karlsson trade, people only look the offensive points of the players, but the Karlsson trade gave amazing players to Ottawa, most of them extremely useful on 200 ft. People said dorion got rob on that trade, honestly Ottawa won that trade.

Even if Ottawa thought about trading Duchene, I doubt Dorion wants to move more of his players to his division since that Hoffman mess. Also, for the amount they paid for Duchene, to undersell him for that much, jeez. I mean they would at least want a 1st Rounder considering they don’t have their own.

Lol.... the Hoffman mess happened specifically because Dorion didn't want to deal in his division, not the other way around.

Assuming Ottawa and Duchene cant agree on a new contract and that the Habs are in the playoffs race , they probably move him at the deadline to get some assets, here is my proposal:

To Habs: Duchene
To Ottawa: Danault + Hudon + Ikonen + Hillis\McShane

With this terrible proposal aside, would Ottawa be interested in a Duchene for Mete type deadline deal?

I'm a Habs fan, and I think that deal is hot garbage. Danault is a decent enough 3rd line center, but Hudon is a fringe NHL'er and the prospects offered wouldn't move the needle at all if I was Ottawa. Duchene is worth at least a 1st+good prospect+roster player. OP's proposal had 1/3.

Yeah, but it’s clear that Dorion doesn’t like trading assets to division opponents once that mess happened, so to the OP this proposal doesn’t work in many ways. 1. Undervaluing Duchene and 2. Not realizing Dorion wouldn’t trade to a division opponent

Only point I somewhat agree with was that Ottawa wasn't ripped off as badly and some thought on the EK trade.

But, the deal is hardly fair or good value for Ottawa. This imaginary, fantasy trade would make a lot of sense for Montreal.

The only thing Dorion can do from stopping a team from trading the player back into their division is creating an incentive like he did in the Karlsson trade. Personally, I don't really see the hate with trading in division - if it's the best offer, it should be taken. I think it's overhyped.
