As for the coaching. I get that everybody wants a scapegoat but the 5th coach in 7 years is not going to change very much. The problems extend well beyond coaching.

How do you explain the regression with this coach and the lack of progression under him? The team and most players on it took a big step backwards when Eakins came on board and they haven't made much progress going forward in the time since. Just because there are some issues with the roster doesn't mean you keep a coach who is making things worse. You can't evaluate the roster properly when you have a coach who doesn't give the roster a chance to be successful.

Who has taken a step backwards in your view?

Indeed...in terms of how much time has passed the future should be now. In terms of the on ice product...the time is not now.

There are 2 things that have to change IMO before this team becomes respectable. The core has to change and the habits of the team have to change.

The core is a group of players who basically bring a similar tool set to the table. No balance in this group. Hall, Eberle, RNH, Yak and Schultz all bring a similar set of skills...no truculence at all. Just a soft skill game. How in the world Management thought that this group would be the core to build around is beyond me.

Outside of that the habits of this team are still bad. They have improved but there still too many moments when the team does something stupid with the puck or their coverage. Only time and/or player changes will move this along.
Coaching is not holding this team back.

So the team has bad habits but coaching is not holding them back. Don't you see how these are related?

Also you hire a coach, fire him, hire another coach, mistakenly fire him. Hire another coach who is worse than the previous two coaches.....better keep him for continuity. We did the continuity thing with Bucky and Smith for 5 years or whatever.

Start with hiring the best guy available, teams that under perform two years or more in a row no coach should be safe.

I think it's more finding the right coach than how many coaches. The Sens went through something like 5 coaches in 6 seasons before landing on MacLean from 2005 to 2011.

Unlike the Sens, I hope we fire the entire management too.

Basically everyone except Hall. Look how Smid went from legit to get him off the team bad as soon as Eakins got here, look how Yakupov went from leading the team in goals as a rookie to bust as soon as Eakins got here. Eberle saw his play drop, Petry saw his play drop. Perron came in last year and was damned good and now this year he's terrible. Marincin was great last year and not as good this year, Every goalie has gotten worse as they've spent more time with Eakins as the head coach... How many more examples do you need? This team nosedived as soon as Eakins came in and he hasn't done anything to reverse it.

It's pretty obvious to see that this team was taking steps in the right direction under both Renney and Kreuger only to have massive regression across the board as soon as Eakins got here and very little has changed from last year to this year despite roster changes. If players are changing and the results stay the same then fingers need to be pointed at the coach. Just because the roster has some pieces that need to be added to it doesn't mean you settle for a bad coach and right now all the evidence points to Eakins being a bad coach for this team.
