Are people really bragging here about a guy who has 1 goal and 4 assists in 11 games and projects to get less than 40 points over an 82 game season?

We all know that Danault isn't about the points and I'm really not trying to crap on the guy with the above comment. But he turned this down a year ago when the expectation was Suzuki and KK were going to be the future and have breakout years. Danault wasn't traded a year ago because they knew someone was needed to pick up the slack when the two youngens faltered. They did at times, and he was unable to pick up the slack and because of that, the same offer wasn't on the table as he didn't deserve it based off of the year he had. Even the playoffs it was justified based on stats though he obviously made it up with intangibles.

Outstanding playoffs aside, he is not a guy you sign to a 6 year deal at 5 million a year because that type of money and term is for someone who's going to put up points. That's not Danault.

The conversation was always that the truth to this contract was going to come when A - he was going to be asked to take care of things offensively and B - when the Kings young centers are ready to take over the role and they have an anchor salary keeping them down.

This guy's points don't matter. However many goals he ends up with, you know he probably didn't create any of them. But he's awesome defensively and IMO even worth his contract, he's paid pretty much on par with Pageau and Staal. LA will never get to use Danault though, they're rebuilding and only getting worse as Kopitar and Doughty age, so it will go down as a bad UFA signing. But I think he's worth the money if he was on an actually contending team.

What's nonsense is using goals scored for a guy who is obviously not a goal scorer.

Yeah but have you seen Carey Price's assists #s? What a bum.

Danault has been worth every penny and then a portion of Iafallo's salary as well. I don't know where this idea that he doesn't make those around him better comes from, that he gets points by osmosis rather than from creation through checking and great playmaking, but coming from fans of his former team who should know much, much better just looks like the sourest grapes on the vine.

He has 3 more assists than goals. Not doing much better in that department.
1 goal in 11 games for a forward paid 5.5 M is awful even for non-goalscorers.

So 6.5 million per for 2 goals is better? Your supposed heart and soul goal scorer?

Dude we are fine with Danault, he is going to be a great "piece" once we build a contender. When he becomes a 3C it means we got prospects who are developing well to push him down the lineup. Not sure what is dramatic for the haters about that. We got the cap space for scoring wingers if we need them this summer.

Enjoy what you got to replace him(in cap space), seems to be working out fairly well.

Gallagher's production this year is awful, but he's only going to get better. He scored at a 30+ goal pace in each of the last 4 years.
Danault is on pace for the same amount of points as he had last season. His production this year isn't surprising, which makes it even worse.

Last time Gallagher actually scored 30 in 2018-2019....who was his center?

HF Boards Tip of the day.
Some players make other players better, even if they don't always get themselves on the score sheet.

Kopitar and Iafallo are on fire and it is due to Phil.

Sure, but those players don't deserve to get paid 5.5 M.
Anyways, no point in continuing this discussion.

A quality center that can help you contend and maybe get you a cup...I dunno, get one for your team's budget and see how far you can get with that player. Quality centers are invaluable in this league.
