I actually had a pinchbof sympathy for MB at the last presser.

He looked like he was in over his head and knew it. He didn’t have his usual cocksure manner. I got the impression he is finding the job much much harder than anticipated.
The job is supposed to be ridiculously difficult.

Normally, you facilitate the work by surrounding yourself with the absolute best. He’s failed to do this.

So it’s not just his roster and prospects that are in an issue. There appears to be a serious issue with the entire management group at identifying and evaluating players at all levels.

He can't hide and rely on the help that he had in Chicago
But what's even worse, is that no matter how shit of a job he has done in his soon to be 6 years, Molson has always backed him up. That's what scares me the most, from the Subban trade to the Price contract, the 5 years extensions he has given Marc, the 5 years he oked for Julien and so on.... Just proof that Molson doesn't give a flying f*** about the hockey team

What it means is that the answer HAS to be in the room 'cause it CLEARLY isn't at the 2nd Floor....

The answer is in the room that is between his ears. Unfortunately, it's been echoing quite a bit in there.

The Shaw acquisition is just even worst and shows how stupid this GM is. "He is a Cup winner". Yep. So is Ed Ronan. Is Wayne Simmonds a bad player 'cause he hasn't won a Cup? Shaw winning a Cup means nothing unless being at the right place at the right time means something. That's what Bergevin said....5 seasons, 2 Cups. That's as deep an analysis as Subban for Weber because..it's Shea Weber. Don't people see the stupidity here? On top of scouts saying how the word around the NHL was that Shaw was more a 30 years old than a 25 years old...with shoulders being extremely damaged already? And we gave 2 2nd rounders for that....just wow people....

Hey based on his Shaw evaluation.....why is Price and Gallagher and Pacioretty and Co not traded yet? How many cups have they won?

Whitesnake did not say that... Not in that post at least..

Why do you go after "playoffs performers" and "cup winners" when your team is barely playoff level ? Makes sense to you? And after you trade your best PO performer in Subban and let go Radulov...

Bergevin is clueless

I said that where? Who is making shit up? I said that THIS IS NOT A REASON TO DO A STUPID TRADE. And I'm also saying that he was in a great team. Are you saying that Wayne Simmonds would not have done what Shaw did? Is Simmonds a worst player than Shaw because he didn't have the luxury to play with Kane, Toews, Hossa, Keith and Seabrook? So you don't acquire Simmonds because...he hasn't won a Cup?

Spending assets to get "playoff performers" who were just the supporting cast to legit super stars is a dumb idea. Shaw's value to Chicago was in being a cheap, effective for dollar player to line up being their highly paid great players. In Montreal he didn't have the elite talent to play behind and he wasn't cheap anymore. If you want a guy like Shaw on the Habs, you develop guys like Lehkonen or Carr, not spend assets on a guy to pay him real money to be an unremarkable middle of the lineup player.

Bergevin didn't understand what should be the most important concept for his job, you're in the business of buying value, not buying players.

Why can't our organization be like this?

Like Mitch Melnick said earlier after reading the letter on air from the Rangers to their fans. He said good on the Rangers for being totally upfront with their fans and telling them exactly what they're gonna do and what their plan is. Their plan is to not just be content on making the playoffs like MB's plan seems to be and they're aiming much higher.

He said Hab fans are so pissed off because nothing is happening and we have no idea what the plan is right now. At least Ranger fans know what's going on now. There have been unconfirmed reports that the Habs are gonna sell but no one really knows for sure until someone within management says so and nothing is happening. Why is everything with this organization so damn top secret all the time?

This guy defended Shaw nonstop when the trade was made with his parroting of "he won 2 cups!" over and over. He will never admit he's wrong. He still thinks the Subban trade was a great move.

Bergevin has no vision. Even his hindsight vision is far from 20/20.

Lol Man.

Are you serious ?

Because MB has 0 concrete plan.

Probably he was looking at trading for a young centre or prospect centre.

Now McDo is available, maybe now the plan is to add him since that would be his dream top pairing. Two guys who both need PMDs to be most effective , except in the mind of MB.

I mean I know you need some flexibility and opportunity can knock, but you have to have a grand strategy and stick with it.

And yes, Rags have it together. Play off contention but they refuse to sell their youth. Last year they gave up a 2C to get 7th overall to draft a C. Used another 1st on a C. New York you are talking about.

I really hope he figures it out. We are at the cusp of a replay of the dark ages of Houle. MB can still avoid it for now, but he can't mess up again.

I'm not pissed because they don't say anything about their plan, I don't care about the plan coming from the minds who thought Subban was in the same tier as Del Zotto and spent the last 6 years pursuing players this team had no needs for (Alzner,Hemsky, Streit, Semin, Scrivens, Ott, King, Martinsen, PAP, Brière, Murray, Shaw, Benn... Jesus Christ why this list is so long already...). I don't care about their plan and I rather not know cause it's going to be dumb anyway, I'm tilted by the fact that they are still allowed to have a plan. Why this is happening? When enough will finally be enough?

I have been thinking about our demise for ages, and think I understand dynamic that has led us here. This is storybook stuff! Socialism meets Capitalism! Good/bad or right/wrong that is my take.

That isn't the issue.
Shaw was and will always be a support role player. If your top guys are not good enough, that support player becomes rather pointless. Bryan Bickell had some solid PO performances too, but it would have been stupid to trade for him giving up two 2nd picks. Shaw was not going to change much of anything here and we already had Gallagher, so we didn't even have a need to a scrappy feisty pesty winger.
Now, I get that posters like you simply couldn't understand this. That's fine. But I expect the GM to know this.
