Unacceptable. Meaning a 3rd rounder?

Leafs management mantra staying the same... Keep all the same players, convince yourself they'll play better

I was unaware that teams are unable to make moves starting today. GMs are in pokerface mode right now.

The prefer to re-sign him thing is probably bs - just to make it look like they don't have to get rid of him. And I think they do. Nothing against him (he has his pros and cons) but he won't be worth the coin

I like that they're trying to get a reasonable offer for him. They're fully aware of his horribly ****** defensive game, so if he is brought back, he better be staying on the 3rd-pairing with very limited minutes. I've never seen a defensemen who gives up so many short-handed chances to the other team, it was getting downright ridiculous at some parts of the season.

If we could land a 2nd rounder for him, I wouldn't be against it; but then we would really need to go after some right shooting d-men. It would be nice not to be without a 2nd rounder for 3 straight years.

Let's hope that is blarney on the part of Leafs mgmt. Franson was a total disaster last season.

Judging by some of the responses there are a lot of new fans here.

If he is brought back, it has to be in the right role. He has finally realize what he is (bottom pairing pp specialist) and be paid accordingly. I've never been his biggest fan, but if he is in the right role, he is still a useful player.

Leafs can have offers on Franson but it's unlikely this is the best time to trade him.

Once camp gets underway, every team gets desperate for Dmen and it's the # thing teams overpay for.

If Franson want only a 1 year deal so he can test free agency the Leafs can then trade him and increase his value by retaining salary.

Haha well certainly not and I didn't mean it that negatively, and who knows how accurate Dreger is here.

But sometimes you need to cut bait with your middle of the road players for the sake of change. Franson is a guy that management shouldnt fall in love with. He's exactly the type of guy you trade for the sake of change. Let someone else come in and see if you can improve with a better fit.

I'm not saying trade Franson for a conditional pick. But he's maybe a #4, and as an ofd with own end issues, he's one of many on this roster. To me if you get a mid round pick or prospect for him, or can go 1 for 1 for a diff type of player you do it. No reason to sign this guy again.

If Franson can revert to his form of 2 years ago, I wouldn't mind keeping him at all.

Last season to an extent wasn't his fault.

Toronto simply has the wrong mix of Dmen and Carlyle was forced to overplay Franson. Like he was forced to overplay Kostka the year before well Franson got insulated minutes and shockingly looked better cause of it.

It's much better that Franson got put in a tough situation then mess with the development of Gardiner or Rielly before they were ready for harder minutes.

We really need another top pairing Dman or at the very least another Gunnarson type in our top 4 to bring a better offence vs. defence balance.

Over the coming seasons hopefully the development of Rielly sovles the top pairing issues and then one or both of Granberg and Percy become 2nd pairing defensive options.

The Toronto D group won't be significantly better by next season but we've got some intriguing options to build around long term.

True, but i believe in the actions i see !! How many players did we kept just to see them lose value (grabo, kulemin, Macarthur...)

All we do is resign mediocre players, instead of trading them and get something in return !! i'm tired of this poor asset management strategy :help:
