The conclusion you've drawn isn't reasonable. Pearson is a UFA and needs to be signed soon if he'll be signed at all, whereas Demko is an RFA who cannot unilaterally sign elsewhere.

I have a feeling with the criticism he got for letting Toffoli go, he will try and make up for it by keeping Pearson. Not good news for us because it will be an overpayment.

The limit for Pearson should be 2x2.5. Maybe that's unrealistic but I can't justify longer term for this style/age of a player. More money just isn't an option with the cap situation.

Pearson is 3rd liner on a better constructed team and in two years he might not even be that. Don’t blame him for looking at a guy like Roussel getting 3M and expecting that but it can’t be here.

The limit should be 0 and this should be posturing.

Signing him makes no sense.

Either he will be back on the market this summer and we can revisit this or other players might be able to replace his production at a cheaper rate.

That being said, I would still prefer to trade him for a pick/prospect.
