The conclusion you've drawn isn't reasonable. Pearson is a UFA and needs to be signed soon if he'll be signed at all, whereas Demko is an RFA who cannot unilaterally sign elsewhere.

I have a feeling with the criticism he got for letting Toffoli go, he will try and make up for it by keeping Pearson. Not good news for us because it will be an overpayment.

The sad part is I actually think we should keep Pearson, if it can be done at a reasonable price. He's the type we should be slotting on our third line instead of the Roussels of the world. Unfortunately, I'm expecting the same thing you are: Benning overpays because he took so much (justifiable) backlash for letting Toffoli go. Which was still an incredibly stupid move.
