But Drouin, Tatar, Suzuki, Shaw won’t be traded so ...

How do we know this? What if Bergevin receives an offer too good to pass up? That’s why I enjoy this time of year, so much of what’s going to happen is unpredictable.

With the Oilers' strength up the middle and weakness on wings, I can't imagine another team where Puljujarvi would have more opportunity to excel. Which makes it pointless for the Oilers to trade him or for any other team to acquire him.

If he was on the Habs, he'd be on the 4th line with Thompson as his centre. There's no way he's displacing anyone in our top 9.

He has the potential to be a top 6 talent, so it would be stupid for whoever picked him up not to try him there.

I don't necessarily agree that young players with top-6 potential should be given top-6 roles from the get-go. Either way, he wouldn't get that opportunity with the Habs. I have zero interest in Pool-party.

I disagree completely. If they were to acquire him, they would give him all the chances to perform.

HEY EVERYONE, COME LOOK AT THIS REASONABLE DISCOURSE.

You’re a credit to your fan base sir. Whether others would believe it or not, I DID think it was fairly well balanced.

I think we could probably find a spot for Peca; Brodziak was a disaster and there are rumours he’s considering retirement.

So it would be:

Peca @ 1 mil, Lehkonen, Hudon’s rights

For

JP, 3rd, Manning?
I'm sold, good deal.

He he can’t play top6 on the Oilers, what makes you think he can on the Habs? If McDavid can’t turn you into a player, no one can.

JP is dumb as rocks and there is no fixing stupid...

Jonathan Drouin to Calgary, just so Brad can continue his touches so he can hit 50% of the first round of the 2013 draft.

Kotkaniemi + 15 for 3

Trade the 3rd overall from the year prior (following a very successful D+1 year) plus the 15th overall this year just to get the 3rd overall this year who is one year behind in development and might not be as good. Ummm.. no.

Not sure if this is overkill / underkill, but NYR fans bear with me:

Brady Skjei has had a couple disappointing seasons since hitting 42 points and is on a longterm 5.25M contract (5 more years). Habs need a top-4 LHD in his age category and may be willing to take him on and hope he rebounds. He skates really well and would fit the Habs system.

But to do so we would want to dump cap in return - Alzner. Alzner is a bad contract and there is no sugar coating it - it would cost us to dump him. So what i propose is this:

Skjei + Belesky (dump) to the Habs

Alzner (dump) + 1st (15th overall) + Juulsen + Byron/Lehkonen

Is it enough from the Habs given that Alzner is being dumped?

To make a long story short? No. Skjei is the Rangers 1 D at the moment, and the only "strength" on our LD side, with the rest either being question marks (Hajek, Rykov, Lindgren, etc.), overpaid and meh (Smith), or overpaid and bad (Staal). Beleskey only counts for 825k if he's buried in the AHL, and that's only for this season.

On the other hand, Alzner is over 3.5m for 3 more seasons, even if buried in the AHL. Juulsen played just 24 total games between the NHL & AHL before being shut down due to injury, and is a RHD where the Rangers are currently packed (between Shatty, Fox, DeAngelo, Pionk). Byron's 30, signed for 4 more years, and only played 56 games, though was decently productive. Lehkonen is 23, but only put up 31 points in 82 games, and would likely take up a spot the Rangers are looking for one of their youngsters to fill. 15OA is appealing, but not that appealing

Will give some guidelines that most Habs fans would agree upon

- Can take major cap hits if they have 1 or 2 years left.
- Positions of varying need to play in the NHL right now: LHD, RW, Powerplay specialist, Backup goaltender.
- Prospects: Anything but goaltender prospects.

Players probably not worth discussing unless giving up a piece that hurts:
Domi, Kotkaniemi, Suzuki, Poehling, Romanov, Gallagher, Price, Weber.

Pieces that are more available for the right deals.
(Listing in order of likeliness of availability, Hudon & Reilly would be super cheap. Weise has negative value)
Dale Weise, Joel Armia (RFA), Charles Hudon (RFA), Mike Reilly (RFA), Charlie Lindgren (Would need a replacement), Andrew Shaw, Jonathan Drouin, Paul Byron, Artturi Lehkonen (RFA)

I'd add Lehkonen to the players i wouldn't move, he just doesn't have high enough value to justify trading him atm. He brings more to the table than what we'd get in a trade for him. It would hurt to move Byron too but i'd listen on offers for him.

Also, I'm one of the rare Habs fan who would listen to a deal for Maatta... I think he still has potential, even when you factor in his skating. Also.. can we stop making proposals w/ Edmonton fans?
