If the Leafs could bury Darling's cap and it would help the Canes...feel free to toss him in to a deal. The Leafs have no issue spending cash to improve the team.

What about something around this...

Zaitsev + Kapanen for Faulk + Darling

Leafs would then buy out Darling or Robidas him or whatever they do to get rid of bodies. Canes take a BIG long term gamble that Zaitsev can be a serviceable Top 4 defenseman and then get Kapanen who would fit into their top 6 and a much needed right handed shot. I'm not saying I like this deal or that it works but just throwing out some ideas here.

That's fair. It's the type of trade that either side probably doesn't feel great about but maybe that means it's close!
