RFA. 1 million last year and Detroit's 2nd highest scoring defenseman.

Guys that are playing bad in the AHL probably don't have much trade valueStart him in the AHL next year if he does not play well try to trade him.
The problem with any stat per 60 minutes is that it ignores difficulty of opponent. Hronek consistently has tougher matchups than Bowey, but I expect Hronek to improve over the next 2-3 years, while I don't see a reason to expect the same from Bowey.Let's take a look at some numbers.
Let him walk. He scored, but he was a disaster in the defensive zone.

I was fine with him as a throw-in to the trade. Some long shots pan out and some don't. Assuming Detroit can find even one actual NHL defenseman in free agency, absolutely let him walk.
You could add ZS & QoC%'s for more perspective, but I appreciate the #'s listed.Let's take a look at some numbers
{ignores groans}
Red Wings defensemen.

1. Bowey 1.11
2. Hronek .71
3. Daley .51
4. Green .49
5. Nemeth .37
6. Biega .25

6. Bowey 44.12
7. Daley 40.95

3. Nemeth 1.63
4. Daley 1.62
5. Green 1.47
6. Cholowski 1.39
7. Biega 1.36
Both Bowey and Hronek benefit from a higher than average team shooting percentage when they are on the ice.
1. Bowey 9.53
2. Hronek 7.11
3. Daley 6.61
4. Nemeth 5.83
5. Biega 5.46
6. Green 5.44
7. Cholowski 5.03
You could argue, I guess, that Bowey and Hronek create good scoring chances, so that's why the save percentage his higher.... But I don't know.
There's a chance Bowey's points/60 and goals for/60 are flukey.
On the other hand, he looks really good at times in the Ozone.
And to be fair, while he makes a lot of stupid, bone-headed plays, so does EVERYONE on the defense.
I think the contract to Biega could be a sign that Bowey's done. But I really don't see any big reason to dump him.

I read that Zone Starts OFD & DZ only make up ~10-15%+, the rest is neutral zone, but most are on the fly, which makes total sense. Still they do factor in, to what degree is a question for the experts...Same with QoC.I always like Zone Starts... but I've been told over and over they don't matter.
I've personally never quite understood QoC. I get it that, yeah, one pairing gets to face Crosby and the other pairing gets leftovers.
But is it based on CF? GF? Does some third liner who plays on Crosby's wing get credit for being Crosby-level? How much does QoC change when it's Guentzel-Crosby-Hornqvist compared to Blueger-Crosby-Hornqvist.
How much better or worse is that than Zucker-Malkin-whoever, etc.
What about bad plays per 60? He leads this by a lot on our team, with Daley in second.
