Montreal trades for Mackinnon to reunite MacK with Drouin.

If you compare the past 2 seasons of Galchenyuk and MacK:

16-17:
Mackinnon 0.195 gpg 0.646 ppg 1.66 pts/60
Galchenyuk 0.279 gpg 0.721 ppg 1.74 pts/60

15-16:
Mackinnon 0.292 gpg 0.722 ppg 1.63 pts/60
Galchenyuk 0.366 gpg 0.683 ppg 2.07 pts/60

You can definitely make the case for either of these players as the better offensive player.

That said, Mackinnon had that great rookie season. He's also proved that he can play C, but you could argue that Colorado gave him more of an opportunity than Montreal did with Galchenyuk to play center. Also, Galchenyuk was really good for the first 20 games this year at center and was in the top 10 in points after the first 20 games.

What about a trade like this:

Scherback + Galchenyuk + 2017 1st + Beaulieu for Mackinnon

Colorado thinks a change of scenery would benefit Galchenyuk and think he could be their #1C. They also get some good prospects.

For Montreal, it's clear Galchenyuk will not work out there. They get their #1C

Yeah. Sorry that is just bad for the Aves.

At this point, Galchwnyuk is a wing not a rope line center.

you already moved Sergachev so no way the Av's do this. He would have to have been one of the many pieces coming back.

That offer does nothing to entice the Avs to move MacKinnon, who Sakic has said numerous times is untouchable and exactly who he wants to build the Avs forward group around...

I saw this on an SB Nation blog post too. The logic is ridiculous.

Unless you can swap Drouin for Provorov or Werenski, and make that kid your offer; Colorado would have to be ******** to trade MacKinnon to Montreal. Galchenyuk++ for Duchene has limited enough appeal, nevermind for MacKinnon.

I'm surprised to see that Galchenyuk seems to be the better offensive player, everyone seems to think his value is in the tank, meanwhile Mack still holds his first overall draft stock even though he has been a disappointment at this point in his career.

this deal totally makes sense from a MTL perspective but unless COL can flip all that for D help they have no reason at all to do it.

There are teams better equipped to offer Colorado what would be necessary for MacKinnon, if he were to become available at some point.

Prepare yourselves Avs fans. I have a feeling this is going to be the first of many to come. MacKinnon to Montreal will be the new Drouin to Colorado.

Galch isn't a big enough piece to start a conversation with Mack. All the rest is filler. Can't see this happening. Avs have no incentive to trade Mack, especially for this package.

Eh, they'll turn on Drouin and run him out of town soon enough; and then Drouin to Colorado can be the new Drouin to Colorado :yo:

Yeah, I'm not familiar enough with the prospects involved or what value the picks holds, but I don't think the trade proposal is as lopsided as some are making it seem

You underestimate the strength of the 'we want Drouin' faction of the Avs fanbase. Drouin to Colorado will still be Drouin to Colorado :sarcasm:
