Toronto is so f***ed. Their cap is going to be tied up in like 6-7 players on their roster by next offseason. Absolutely insane.

This is why I feel Nylander is in for a monster bounce back season. It is do or die for him if he wants to stay a Leaf, otherwise he is an easy cap casualty.

More interesting is, that when Barrie will be 9M defenceman, Morgan Rielly is quite equal with his production.

Prepare for +10M Rielly after his cheap 3 seasons.

Why wouldn't he? Barrie just had a great year and is now on a team with great offense through-out the line-up. He's putting up a monster year again and will be getting paid for. He's going to be a rental in the sense that he'll probably end up pricing himself out of Toronto, but will be too good to trade at the deadline with the leafs deep in a playoff picture.

Maybe, only so much money to go around. There's a lot of good upcoming free agent defensemen (Pietro, Josi, Barrie, Spurgeon, Muzzin etc.) that will be looking for that retirement contract.

In a world where Kevin Hayes gets 7M, you can bet a team will give Barrie 9M in free agency. Right handed OFD is what half the league is looking for.
