Pretty much this.... if your moving kapanen for a back up your doing something wrong.

And most backups are going to struggle behind that defense... fix the defense with your better assets, and look for a goalie you can get for a 3rd or 4th.
Bingo. Good post.

He's officially day to day
he could be starting tomorrow and i would still be looking to upgrade on Hutch. Hutch is a nice guy, but he's not an NHL goalie...last night proved that. You can't have a 2 goal led with 19 minutes to go and give up 3 goals on 13 shots.

What about Campbell and Martinez if Toronto is looking for D? He's a lefty who can play both sides. Kapanen would be a good target for the Kings and the Kings can retain...

Just interested in Campbell, not looking to expand. Kap/Johnsson will be used in a separate deal to acquire D.
Campbell+Alec Martinez (Rentention) for Kapanen + 3rd.

I'd go as high as a 2nd...kid is good.

Meh. We're already down a 1st this draft and theres like 60 players in this draft that have 1st round production.

If we did it I wouldn't be mad, but I'm hoping it costs a 3rd at most (plus a small prospect add).

You're criminally underrating Jack Campbell.

He's in his prime years and signed to a great contract. Easy pass.

I'm underrating him? His quality start percentage is .350. And his goal saved above average is -4.73 while averaging 28 shots against per game. To compare, Casey DeSmith last year, QS% .600 and GSAA +6.54 who averaged 29.4 shots against.

Campbell is certainly better than Hutch, but he's still a low end backup who will be making 1.6M per at 29, and with little track record.

Anything more than a late 3rd is clearly LA taking the buying GM to the toolshed.

I know this is going to sound stupid... but can the Leafs afford to spend $1.65m on a backup goalie next year?
