Take a third round pick, attach your worst contract to it. That’s about the price of Bennett and lucic combined.

Edit: didn’t see the retained portion. Make the third a 2nd

I think Lucic will have some small value to cap floor team starting July 28 (so his 2021 bonus is paid) since he will owed 6.5 million over two year (2.5+4) for a cap hit of 6 million. He's even producing at better pace than the last two years.

He will definitely have some value in 2022 after his bonus as he will have a 1 million salary for 6 million cap hit.

How many cap floor teams are there any more? Sens? Are they even one? The whole idea of trading bad contract to cap floor team is silly because that’s still throwing away money. Bad-ish contract has to return.

I admit most teams would probably wait until 2022. 1 million in money for Lucic is not that bad.

Is Lucic gonna waive his NMC to go to a team only spending to the cap floor?

His NMC includes a M-NTC for the last two years. 8 teams trade list for 21-22, 10 teams 22-23.

To be fair, Calgary had his fair share of problem this year as well. Going to Ottawa, Detroit, NJ or LA (or potentially Seattle depending how they draft) might give him a good role and maybe a chance to have a decent contract after this one is done.

He's essentially a 6 million dollar enforcer at this point, he'll score a few goals here and there, but gives away far more than he gets at 5on5.

But to a low cap team, that 5.25 cap hit (was forgetting the previous retention earlier) doesn't matter. His salary will be 1 million in 2022 after his signing bonus and that is pretty good for a 20-30 points guy if he can keep his current level. Even in 2021 after bonus, it's an average of 3.25 (2.5+4) per year which is not THAT bad.

Calgary has not retained salary in any trade that i can recall, the ownership will not pay a player who is not playing for Calgary, buyouts are different to them then retaining salary, so the whole conversation ends once you ask for retention, and with this trade you take away two of Calgary's biggest players if it wasnt for them we would of lost to Winnipeg last year in the playins... Calgary wants to be harder to play against so expect them to target players like them rather than trade them away, Bennetts getting a fresh start under a coach who will appreciate his all around game rather than just his scoring...

Not unless you retain his nose.

Wait a minute, make that the whole face.

I drive a hard bargain.

What a bizarre take. Lucic has played an effective role as a middle six left winger in typically a shutdown role. His poise with the puck has helped his line break out of the defensive zone more often than not, and he's one of his team's leaders in both goals scored and possession metrics.

I'm not sure which Milan Lucic you've been watching, but from the sounds of it you haven't watched him at all and probably just dug up some plus-minus stat that means SFA.

He's been directly responsible (giveaways) on at least 2 goals against the Oilers this season.

What is the purpose of 20-30pts when he's going to give it back at ES? Lucic will be a -10 to -15 player in any lineup and that's with soft 3rd/4th line minutes. He's too slow. He's got hands of stone. He rarely makes a good pass and doesn't hit/fight as much as he used it. He more of negative at any cost. The only team that should keep him in the lineup is a team that is tanking.

Not worth getting rid of Lucic for the Flames unless some GM is dumb to take him without the Flames giving a premium asset to get out of the contract.

Poise with the puck? Is that what you call those no look behind the back passes that end up in turnovers and in his own net?
