Lucic is signed for 5 more seasons. Tatar 3.

You'd need to retain a lot more than 1M in order to entice VGK into this.

Tatar hasn't been good in Vegas. Been healthy scratched a few times.

3 years younger, 2 years less term and can skate which fits in with the newer NHL. There's just no way a team is letting the Oilers off the hook that easily.
If you're looking at somebody with less term, think somebody like Backes and I don't think the Bruins even do that.

Meh, then add a prospect like Benson.

This is just bad... you realize the package that was just given up for Tatar right? Clearly has a lot more value then someone with negative value

That's like saying the Oilers should ask for Kessel if they trade Larsson. The package originally given up has nothing to do with Tatar's value today, which is pretty damn low.

That doesn't get you close IMO. Vegas just dealt a 1st, 2nd and 3rd for him. I doubt that in the span of a quarter of a season that his value to Vegas went from all those picks to one of the worst contracts in the league.

You realize he's been healthy scratched throughout a significant portion of these playoffs, right? Again, it's like saying the Oilers should ask for Kessel if they trade Larsson.

That’s a fair point, just because Edmonton traded Eberle for Strome doesn’t mean Strome is worth a 55 point winger.

you're acting like that trade was made years ago. It happened 3 months ago. Still a very good chance Tatar rebounds. Even if his value is just a 2nd round pick now, how many teams would give up a 2nd round pick for Lucic???

Let me answer that for you: NONE

No way that cuts it for Vegas. Tatar fits more for the way they play, is better, cheaper and younger.

Is he really better?

Point production in the last three seasons, including Lucic's career worst 2017:

Tatar - 34, 46, 45

Lucic - 34, 50, 55

Boston is at their strongest at Lw.

Edmonton would need retention AND add a pick as a sweetener

No basis in reality, IMO. I can’t think of a deal where a team retained, added a sweetener, and got a bad contract back.

Or is it just Oilers that have their players value crater after one bad stretch? Pacioretty apparently still has lots of value. Tatar’s been healthy scratched in favour of the likes of Reaves and Carpenter.

It's not like that at all. I don't see the correlation.

They literally JUST burned a bunch of picks to get this guy so why would they now deal him for possibly the worst value contract in the league? Because he was healthy scratched in a few games? Doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
