I wouldn’t trade Seabrook for Lucic. Yet oilers fan think they can get a poor man’s Seabrook? Lol

It's not that hard to jettison Lucic, just retain half of his salary and deep six a bottom six player to cover it. Lucic has value at 3m and a team will pick him up for that, that's not a bad basis for a trade.

Phaneuf is worse than Bieksa last season & he's younger. He's done as a NHL level player.

Few quick reasons why LA quickly rejects this comes to mind:
1) Lucic's contract is longer
2) Dion has retention from Ottawa so his cap hit to LA is less
3) Lucic has a NMC and will require expansion protection (enjoy that Edmonton)
4) LA has more depth at forward (not top line depth) than D and Lucic would block a kid from playing. Dion is not blocking anyone's development yet

Lucic 12.5% retained (to match Phaneuf's cap hit) might make sense if they had the same years, but they don't. Lucic has 4 more years, Phaneuf 2. Edmonton would still have to add something pretty significant, but they wouldn't.

Those 2 extra years are magnified in buyouts where Lucic would be on the books for 8 years, vs only 4 for Lucic.

Phaneuf isn't at $7m because he's been retained to 5.25 or something.

The oil would have to sweeten the trade considerably because of loochs extra few years too.

They would never pay the price to dump that contract. Plus he need to be protected for expansion draft which makes that price through the roof. He will never wear a King jersey again.

I may be in the minority here, but I would be open to a deal around Lucic and Phaneuf. Lucic played really well for the Kings. I don't seem him being a 25-30 goal scorer, but he might still have chemistry with Kopitar and score 15 goals. Edmonton would have to add their 1st rounder in any trade. I wouldn't do a 1 for 1 deal.

And then look like an idiot when you have to protect him in expansion draft leaving another player open. With that contract he is nearly impossible to move.
