this is pretty obvious. quick had a bad year last year and a rough start through 2 games this season....but lucic has been done for years and contributes nothing aside from hits/pims

Everyone says no.

Lucic as a bottom 6er doesn't really hurt the team all that much other than his cap hit. Quick being washed up injury prone crap would lose games and hurt the cap. No reason for either team to do this.

I'm completely befuddled as to why the OP would think the Flames would be interested in trading for a goalie who had a .888 Sv% and a 3.38 GAA last year in 46 games and this year has a .750 Sv% and a 7.17 GAA in the 2 games played this year?
Does the OP perhaps have a hidden agenda?

Chiarelli, author of one of the worst contracts in NHL history..and everyone knew it before the ink was even dry. Unreal.

I think Calgary will buy Lucic out in summer 2021 before the expansion draft.

That's pretty bad. Remember if they buyout Lucic, they need to pay another facepuncher to take his spot. Doesn't really save them anything.

I.E.
With Quick there is hope we are looking at a goalie who is beyond frustrated with the team defense in front of him, in turn making him just go through the motions (see Craig Anderson in Colorado), and that he could bounce back on a team that can contend. With Lučić there is hope he can punch someone in the face every 20 or so games.

Yeah with Quick there's a gamble on some upside, he's only one year removed from a phenomenal year and playoff performance.

He was also excellent this preseason, which is yes, preseason, but people keep ignoring that he was looking back to his old self just last week.

Plenty of risk, absolutely.

Most facepunchers are two way minimum guys. And honestly in my opinion it's better to just have a Hathaway type who can play hockey. Not really a big deal. If Lucic doesn't waive for Seattle, he's likely bought out.

Hathaway is being paid 1.5 million/year. Once again, negative savings with a Lucic buyout then acquiring a Hathaway type to take up his spot.

I say Calgary says no.

At least they have a use for Lucic, and wingers can get limited usage, or you can play around with chemistry with different players.

They have Riddich in net. They'd only want to get Quick if they needed a lottery ticket solution for a goaltending issue, much like how the Oil trading for Neal made sense in that we needed scoring on RW, so at least there was a chance that it would work out. Same for Lucic to Calgary, since they decided they needed a physical element.

As for LA, do they have another goalie ready to steal the job? Idk, so maybe LA says no instantly.

My point is that there still has to be a logic behind the trade. It can't be just to move someone, unless it is LTIR cap or something

If I was LA, I might if only to just give Jack Campbell and Cal Petersen a chance to roll with the job.

I still think Lucic will be a good person to have come playoff time.

He’s pretty useless in the regular season but once the refs put away their whistles than I think he has value.

You clearly didn't watch Lucic in the playoffs last time he was there.

I'd do that in a hurry if I was the kings. At least lucic is serviceable, can play decently as a 3rd or 4th liner.

Quick on the other hand probably shouldn't play another nhl game. He's done.

oh yeah, sure looks serviceable right now. Cmon now LOL

It’s not about savings, it’s about not having to protect Lucic in the expansion draft and I think Hathaway was a league minimum guy in Calgary which is what he was referring to.

I didn't mention Seattle. NMC also applies to trades and I was suggesting that Lucic might use it to block a trade to LA.
My mistake, as for Lucic to LA? I doubt he'd block it as he lives there in the off season and no doubt has a bunch of buddy's there. Calgary are the one's that don't do the trade though as they have zero use for a terrible Quick, at least Lucic is one of the best nuclear deterrents in the league, people might be skeptical on this type of importance to a team but I'll guarantee Minnesota Wild coach Bruce Boudreau will have a hard time convincing his troops to slash Gaudreau on the hands 21 times next time they meet.

Hathaway was cheap because he was undrafted. Finding a player like that for league minimum is easier said than done.

The Flames issue the expansion draft is likely to be defence. The quality of their exposed dmen will be much higher than their forwards, and Seattle will almost certainly take one of their dmen.
