Damn that game was a bummer. From what I saw the first period and the second half of the third was playoff level hockey to me. I was annoyed through out the game for lack of position from the offensive side, no one ever seems to be in place to get the assist? Seems to me if the puck is on the side we are scoring at someone might want to line up by the net??? Maybe thats just me? Idk. Also I was really in shock at how dirty some of the Stars players were, I get that its heated for the series but come on they pulled out some dirty plays and hits. Oh well on to the next game I suppose

To the posters who were questioning my decision to leave early, was there anything you saw in the Preds play the first 10 minutes of that 3rd period that said comeback?

It's a free country (well, kinda), but it's a playoff game and down by a point or 2, yeah I question it.

What if you was at the Blue Jackets game last night down 3-0 to possibly the best team in the league and left?

It's playoffs hockey. You just never know.

It's your life and you paid for your own tickets! Do whatever you want to do. I don't think you have to justify anything to a message board lol.

I also felt like our physicality dropped off substantially after the first period. We were crushing guys early on and you could tell they were rattled, but once we let up they got back in it. The intensity level after the first looked like a normal regular season game. Heiskanen and Klingberg are both skinny guys and they need to be taking a hit every time they make a breakout pass.
This. We need to get on those D, and guys like Watson and Sissons need to play more than 10 minutes, more than some of our "2nd line" guys who aren't going to touch anybody or produce anything.

Sure, but that NBC explanation was pretty specific. Where did that come from?
I thought it sounded like they got it from talking to Turris himself... like it was Turris' explanation for his struggles. I don't remember the exact words, but that's just the impression I somehow got watching it. :dunno: Anyway, a broken and potentially re-broken foot might explain some things. But if it's all fixed now, he better start doing something. Thought last night at least he wasn't "invisible"... he was noticeable. Still ultimately ineffective and muffed his chances, but just not being totally invisible is maybe a step up? :dunno:

What an awful game. First period was good.

My observations:

Ellis, like most of this season and last year's playoffs, played like a third pairing d.

The 2nd line started strong in the first, just like in the Chicago game, but became non-existent when Dallas got physical.

Hamhuis is not ready. Fabbro had an okay game, but I worry about this defensive pairing.

What has happened to this team? Why the inconsistency in effort? Do they feel entitled?

On the positives: Boyle played hard. Rinne had a good game. We had a good first period .

Let's hope the team rebounds Saturday instead of laying another egg.

I still have hope this team can get to the second round.

Watched the game myself and I was like "Is this the same team?"

As far as Boyle(bolded) goes, if only the rest of the team had that same effort constantly throughout the game instead of just the 1st period.

That was not a good showing, guys and gals.

I know your team is way better than what they showed.

There is no reason why Dallas ended up being the better team than the Preds last night, IN THE PREDS HOME ARENA no less.

I don't believe they are but I do believe in "Playing down to your opponent", though.

Fully expect them to bounce back(They have to!) and take Game 2 to right the ship.

That is all and GO PREDS!! #BoyleStrong

Turris had 3 high danger chances. Rest of the forwards had 2 combined.

Yeah Turris was not the issue to my eye and overall it wasn't a bad game by the second line, but that being said having "not bad" performances by the second line isn't going to get us very far. In my mind what cost the game last night was the poor power play (and empty net play) which is a shared responsibility among everyone on those units and a very poor performance by the 3rd line. Improving either of those issues at least gets that game to overtime. I'm fairly confident that the third line will bounce back, but I've completely given up on the power play at this point.

Yet if you scan the message boards and twitter, Turris is getting more hate than just about anyone.

He has had an awful, awful year, but he was better than just about every other forward on the team last night.....

There seems to be some weird obsession by a subset of our fanbase with pinning losses on an individual guy that is predetermined regardless of how they actually play. It was Fiala earlier in the season and now that he's gone Turris seems to have taken up that mantle.

Every fanbase in every pro sport does this. It's called the whipping boy. Singling out Turris for last night doesn't make sense. The hate he is getting is more of a "season underachievement award".

I don't really care if someone leaves, I just can't imagine why they would want to. The worse things are going, the more epic the comeback would be. I mean it was only one goal at the time, but still.

Agreed. Turris has played better the last week of the season and last night.

The problem is intensity. The team played 60 minutes against Chicago and made me believe they would do the same in the playoffs.

I was wrong.

Joey and Arvy were our best forwards last night. Turris I don’t think played bad, but he still seems very hesitant. Simmonds seems so off, was he this bad in philly? I thought Boyle did some good things.

Jarnkrok was awful last night and I hate how cautious Sissons is. Not just last night but there are so many times we have guys back in position and he has a chance to forecheck and he just backs off and allows the opponent to easily clear the zone.

normally i would totally agree. but we have seen this same song and dance with this team and let's not forget the start time. the puck didn't drop till around 8:45. lot of people have to be up by 4:30-5 in the morning on weekdays.

If someone wants to leave an 830-845 puck drop game early then I wouldn’t blame them at all. It’s not like most people knew when they agreed to but these tickets that they’d be playing this game until almost midnight in a Wednesday. I know I get up at 4am most morning. Not sure about the rest of you.

I'm over it. That horse is long dead and beaten past recognition. He had a shitty, injury-derailed season and we just have to hope he bounces back to the player he innately is. He looked good last night, though with nothing to show for it. How JoFA continues to be the darlings they are despite [probably] middle third to bottom half production among top lines and maintaining a lot of possession with nothing to show for it is starting to draw more of my ire now. And the invisible Finn...
