Seems like the team decided to just be good...not great. First they lost out on three or for first rnd picks not trading JT. A guess is Lee could of been traded for first in August, Brock and eberle each a second round pick. They decide at every step to just win as many games, have a old gm, old coach...but don't have to players picks or prospects to look like a contender on paper at least. Attendance wise they prob can't survive a "islander style" rebuild. Probably not much changes even if they can't sign top six guys and lose Lee and eberle what else can they do then? Start dumping guys? Nobody is worth much besides barzal. I'm not sure if anyone else even brings back a first rounder in a trade.

Right, but otherwise things are looking up.

“Three or for(four) first round picks not trading JT”:laugh::laugh:

If you think a GM would have paid that price at the deadline for a rental even as talented as pajama boy you’re delusional.

What if the islanders traded three or four 1st round picks for let’s say Sydney Crosby as a rental. They make the playoffs and win a round or two but don’t win the cup. Crosby ends up signing with another team July 1st.

You’d be on here screaming how stupid our GM is for trading away 3 or 4 first round picks for a rental just to see him leave.

This was a great season. It’s called building a foundation. We came within 1 point of winning the division and had the most points we’ve had since the 80s. We led the league in goals against. We won a playoff series. But none of that matters. You just want to trade everyone for draft picks. Doesn’t matter if we’re a 1st place team. You just want to trade guys. That’s not how it works.

Now, if we were a bottom team heading into the deadline I’d say absolutely trade the UFAs if they were willing to re-sign. But that wasn’t the case.

If JT was traded in August as soon as he told the team he wasn't as eager to stay as they hoped he would be, and it had nothing to do with money, which is what he told the team, then yes three first round picks could of been gotten. Teams have general managers under the gun, irrational owners, teams with tons extra picks like rangers currently have, heck Vegas has ton picks, three first rounders is very doable. Probably four would be possible. Remember, it didn't have to be all first round picks. Could of been a 19 20 year old former first plus two first rounders or two formeR first rounders. And a 1st. Other much less franchise players got good returns for just twenty regular season games. JT is a franchise player. Isles would jump at three first rounders to trade Jfor a JT right now with hopes he learns to like it and stay.

You're wrong. Enough with this stuff.

Erik Karlsson didn't get 4 first round picks. And he (at the time of the trade) was arguably the best defenseman of the past half decade. No way Tavares gets that.
