Blanc will be the scapegoat. But he took that team to 3rd overall in the return legs last year and it was hardly better than it is now (just Lukeba really).

That roster is simply unbalanced.
Cherki and Nuamah are quality. Lacazette is too, but he's suspended. Caqueret is good when he doesn't have all to do by himself in midfield. Kumbedi is promising, but still too green.
Rest has been crap. Like big crap.

If they sack Blanc, it has to be now, so a potential new manager has some time during the international break.

I didn't see the first 3 games, but Tolisso put his team in an impossible position 4 mins into the game.
Can't really blame Blanc on that one, but 4 games, dead last - not really up to Lyon standards.

Lens and OL look so bad. Lens management doesn’t deserve to win because they sold Fofana and Openda. You can’t sell your best two players and expect to still be good and take on more.

OL though. Feels like they just can’t live without St Étienne and Bordeaux and instead of waiting for those clubs to bounce back, they have decided to expedite the process. So bad, but at least Nice is doing well.

Lens did sign some quality replacements in Diouf and Wahi.
But they're not relying on their small team beating giants mentality anymore.

Lyon is just poorly constructed in terms of roster. For a long time. And they didn't sign proper replacements for Lukeba, Paqueta and Bruno.

Sadly, none of the teams look to be ready to pounce on a potentially weaker season from PSG. Monaco and Marseille dropping points, Lens look awful, Rennes can't buy a win, etc.

Monaco is looking good tbh.
Rennes has the roster but the coach is arguable again.
Lens look awful indeed.

PSG will be very scary soon though. The attitude is really interesting and they're all buying into Enrique's tacs.
Problem is how long before they hit top gear given their CL group where every game is huge.

Then and there
So Draxler went from PSG to Qatar. Thus pretty much everyone from the old guard they wanted to get rid off, are now gone.

My 2023-24 Ligue 1 preview :

First, this is the first season back to 18 clubs, so the relegation spots will be a bloodbath.

AS Monaco :
Main transfers : signed Balogun, Salisu, Zakaria, Singo and Kohn at much needed positions. Got rid of Disasi for a ridiculous fee and Nubel is finally gone.
Big winners on the transfer front, they signed a very nice coach if the first few weeks are an indication. I see them doing very well this year without any european football to play for. Some good youngsters, some nice vets, depth everywhere.
Question marks are Ben Yedder being under investigation for rape and Embolo out for months.
Youngter to follow : Matsima (02) is very very impressive. Ben Seghir is one of the best youngsters in the game.
Projected : 2nd-4th, CL qualified

Brest :
Main transfers : Signed Locko, lost Honorat, not much movement
That roster seems very thin to me on paper and relegation bound. However, they work well together and are cohesive.
Their start to the season is impressive, but between favourable calls, lucky breaks and some teams hitting bad form, this can't be expected to last.
Still their collective could make them escape relegation.
Youngster to follow : Bradley Locko is a nice intriguing addition.
Projected : 14-18

Clermont :
Main transfers : as always, not much movement in or out.
Clermont is playing well together and are tough to beat. They should avoid relegation again. This is the last year of their legendary coach Gastien. Next season should be the tough one.
Youngster to follow : Cham is relatively young and he's the playmaker of this team. Makes a lot of nice IQ plays.
Projected : 11-15

Le Havre :
Main transfers : lost Richardson, one of their best players back to Reims, but acquired Bayo and N'Diaye, which are smart, smart transfers. Their best transfer though was signing Kuzyaev on a free and he's quite the player.
Le Havre is relying on an amazing sporting director (Bodmer), fully in line with a smart coach (Elsner) to make this promoted side a team to be reckonned with.
Youngster to follow : Sangante is impressive, but N'Diaye is a top top prospect.
Projected : 12-15

Lens :
Main transfers : lost their two best players in Openda and Fofana, but made some great moves to replace them in Wahi and Diouf. Added Maouassa, Aguilar, Mendy, etc...
Problem so far is that the rest of the team is playing like they think they're a CL side. Until this summer, they always played with a chip on their shoulder. This is a roster made of paper thin talents. It's their collective and coaching which made them successful. So far they've been horrible. Unlucky too.
This should improve soon though and maybe their CL games (with zero pressure) will help them find their values back (they won't be favourites in any game).
Youngster to follow : Diouf is a former uber prospect who somehow failed to impress Rennes. They sold him for peanuts in Switzerland but Lens bought him for 15M and added a hugely talented Wahi for 30. However, I'll tell everyone to follow ouzbek CB Khushanov. HUGELY impressive for a 19 year old.
Projected : 5th-9th

Lille :
Main transfers : Haraldsson, Bentaleb are in, Baleba and Weah are gone.
Fonseca wanted transfers and David was on the market for 60M. His penalty rate and is lack of pure finishing made teams stay away from such a big purchase. Too bad because he brings a lot to a team other than goals.
Fonseca isn't happy with his roster, but he still is making this team play good football and even though they will have bad games from time to time, they will be competitive.
Youngster to follow : obviously young Varane, Leny Yoro. Full starter at age 17. Key player for this squad already.
Projected : 4th-8th

Lorient :
Main transfers : lost Le Fee and Moffi, their MVPs. Managed to grab Isak Toure (great move), Mendy, Bakayoko.
Lorient has made some very nice moves on the market. Their coach is still one of the top educators in L1 and really smart.
Youngster to follow : Definately Isaak Toure, a 2M monster, mobile and good footballer. Huge upside.
Projected : 8th-12th

Metz :
Main transfers : lost their best player in Mikautadze, and signed no replacement.
I expect a tough season for Metz, trying to defend and counter. Their coach is old Boloni who is the epitome of outdated defensive football.
Youngster to follow : N'Guessan is supposedly a nice talent. As always a young senegalese will come through because of Metz's deal with Generation Football.
Projected : 14-18th

Montpellier :
Main transfers : lost Wahi and Mavididi obviously, but signed Adams and El Tamari, two already impressive offensive players. I don't see the missing a beat offensively. Last year started awful until Der Zakarian came back. WIth a full season, they should avoid relegation battles earlier.
Youngster to follow : Esteve and Chotard are well known now and good quality, especially Chotard who is IMO highly underrated.
Projected : 10-14

Nantes :
Main transfers : lost Blas, their MVP, Girotto and Delort. Replaced them with brazilians nobody has heard of and Marquinhos on loan. Only positive is that they signed Mohamed for good.
This is a team that's looking very very relegation bound. Lafont is their only class player and he had a bad year last season and is going to miss a few months with injury this season.
Youngster to follow : Quentin Merlin is a quality LB (turned from LW).
Projected : 13-17

Nice :
Main transfers : Stengs, Viti and Dolberg are gone, good. Adding Boga and Sanson is decent (very surprised by Sanson's excellent performances so far).
Nice's best moves recently are their sporting director (former Lens) and coach (former De Zerbi assistant). This is going to be a solid team, hard to beat and relying on Todibo on D, Thuram in midfield and Moffu up front.
Youngster to follow : Daouda Traore might see time. Great talent.
Projected : 4th-8th

OM :
Main transfers : Sarr, Lodi, Kondogbia, Ndiaye while getting rid of dead weight Suarez, Malinovskiy, Under, Tavares... Gueye back. Nice summer.
Problem is that Marcelino is out of his depth and continues to have ridiculously bad starting XI choices and tacs.
OM will have to find a new coach, but this is a solid roster that should compete.
Youngster to follow : Meite is a great signing from Lorient. Guy seems unbeatable on defense.
Projected : 3rd-5th

OL :
Main transfers : Lost Lukeba, Barcola, Mendes. Signed Caleta Car, Mata, Balde, Alvero, Moreira....
Lost too much quality (if you add Paqueta, Gusto and Bruno, it's even worse). That D looks horrible. Blanc had enough of that, Aulas is getting sued by the new presidency... It's autodestruction mode ON.
Lost in all of this are amazing Cherki, impressive signing Nuamah, uber talent El Arouch who's still waiting for his chance, and productive Lacazette. Basically offense only. Caqueret has looked lost again in this midfield.
Youngster to follow : Cherki is the obvious choice. Possibly the most talented youngster in the world, he needs refining in terms of making good choices, knowing when to pass, to dribble or to shoot. But he's made strides and Blanc made him unstoppable. But Blanc's gone. We'll see with new coach Grosso.
Projected : Wild to guess, 7th to 14th? :D

PSG :
Main transfers : got rid of all the deadweight as well as the old guard. Only Captain Marquinhos is left. Icardi, Wijnaldum, Verratti, Pembele, Paredes, Sanches, Diallo, Draxler, Neymar, Messi, Bernat, Michut, Bitshiabu, etc...
Added Kolo Muani, Skriniar, Barcola, Dembele, Ndour, Lucas, Lee, Ugarte, Asensio... They got Simmons back in the fold and loaned him to Leipzig.
Totally different mindset this season. Team is surely less purely talented, but also much more effort oriented. Ugarte is amazing so far.
Team will take a little time to gel. It's possible the CL group is too hard for them to develop their chemistry quickly enough. But this team is going into the right direction.
Youngster to follow : Zaire Emery is seen as everyday starter by Enrique. Amazing player who already captains the U21 national team. He's 17.
Projected : 1st

Reims :
Main transfers : Lost Flips, Cajuste, Balogun, Kebbal, Locko. Added Richardson back from loan, Daramy, Nakamura, Okumu, Diakite...
Solid window for Reims who spent a lot more than usual (thank you Ekitike).
This team will be hard to break down and finish mid table easily. Maybe even better.
Youngster to follow : Richardson is the talent to keep an eye on. He was exceptionnal last year with Le Havre in L2.
Projected : 6th-10th

Rennes :
Main transfers : lost Doku, Majer, Ugochukwu, added Blas, Le Fee, Rieder and Matic.
This Rennes roster is loaded offensively and very deep in midfield. Defense is still suspect with Omari slow to come back to form and Theate with ups and downs. Behind them only Wooh is solid but he's still developping. They're playing youngsters at FB.
Still this is a team that is targeting top 3 and rightfully so. They are hindered by a coach who's full of himself and had full backing of the media filled with his buddies. Genesio is always hailed when Rennes wins and throws his players under the bus when Rennes loses.
I'm thinking that if Rennes could find a really good football mind (like Nice may have found), this team could beat anyone.
Youngster to follow : plenty ! Rennes might have the best academy in the world recently. I'll stress Desire Doue, who's been amazing every time Genesio put him on, which is usually for the last 15 minutes unfortunately.
Projected : 2nd-4th

Strasbourg :
Main transfers : lost Bellegarde and Diallo for big money, added Sylla, Angelo, Bakwa, Mwanga, Emegha...
Strasbourg is now Chelsea's training squad. Problem is that Chelsea chose a coach with zero football mind. Vieira is a guy who can organize a defense and then prays for an offensive break from one of his players. No pressing scheme, no offensive ideas. Pains me to see young talents being coached by an old mind like this.
Youngster to follow : Habib Diarra was amazing last year at 19, he will continue so this year. Strasbourg rejected plenty of big offers for him.
Projected : 9th-13th

Toulouse :
Main transfers : lost their whole magic midfield and then took Spierings back from Lens after a couple of weeks. Also lost Chaibi who's a very interesting offensive talent. Added a bunch of unknowns because of data. That's how they work and it worked well so far.
Youngster to follow : Guillaume Restes was projected as a new Lafont. Nobody though he would take this literaly as in becoming the starting goalie at age 18 (16 for Lafont) and making amazing save week after week.
Projected : 8th-12th
