I started watching Dexter recently and it's awesome. Halfway through season three right now. Season two was really good and had a smoking babe in Lila.

For some reason, never caught on to Dexter. Perhaps I should give it a longer look. Been watching Rome, Spartacus and Vikings lately.

I've been watching Vikings also. I'm really into historical period shows (Deadwood, Boardwalk Empire, Vikings, etc). Shows that take place in current times, not so much.

Also I think Ragnar Lothbrok from Vikings (played by Travis Fimmel) looks like Jax of Sons of Anarchy.

Look and compare.

Even if I didn't have especially high expectations, I found the series finale to be worse than Lost.

Overall I liked that show though, guilty pleasure type of entertainment.

Everyone, do yourselves a favor and watch the 10 episode-long season 1 of Fargo. For someone who hasn't seen the 1996 Coen brothers movie (unrelated story, but cut from the same cloth), I'd compare the tone and cleverness of the writing to Breaking Bad's.

OK just finished Boyhood. Incredible, incredible movie. Didn't know this director before and just became a fan. Filming the same people for 12 years was quite a project.

I got my GF super exited, because she somehow finds Hunnam super sexy, when I told her he was going to star into a new Viking TV show.

I win.

haven't watched it yet but Linklater's great. Slacker's really really good might be my favourite of his.

A Scanner Darkly's based on a Philip K. Dick work. Very trippy. He used animations over top of live action. Interesting effect. He first used that technique for Waking Life which is a divisive one. A lot of people find it pretentious because there's a lot of philosophical babbling. I really liked it when it first came to video like ten years ago or so but I haven't watched it in awhile. It's kind of like a synthesis of Slacker and Scanner even though it came before Scanner.

He also did Dazed and Confused and a bunch of others.

Just saw The Imitation Game. I really really liked Benedict Cumberbatch in the movie. He really really is good IMHO. The movie itself is entertaining but for some reason I can't 100% grasp right now I left the theatre feeling a tad disappointed. Worth the watch.

Saw The Hobbit ...

Mixed feelings, to be honest.

I didn't get the feeling of the 1st one.

The story moved on to fighting WAY too fast. The story probably should've been around snapping Thorin out of it, before the fighting began a bit. Should have been more story around the village, around Radagast going to the beast man, add some filler, I don't know. Was it like 15 minutes of Smaugh, 15 minutes of walking, 15 minutes of talking and a hour and a half of fighting ? The fighting was beautiful for sure, it was an epic battle, much like the second LOTR but it really needed to be built around more. It needed more hype around the fight, more hype around the character. I still liked it a lot for sure, but it could've been a movie for the ages. I think they might have been scared of it being too long... But how can the final chapter of the LOTR universe be "too long" ?

I loved Frerin on his boar and Thorin and friends on their goats

The fight in the castle is also one of the best fights I have ever witnessed. Saruman was god damn awesome there and so was Elrond.

Saw the horror movie "Babadook" that I heard raves about.

Clever ghost story for the first half about a boy and his mother having their lives ruined by the boy's obsession by "the coming of a monster". I think it actually loses its edge once the monster shows up. And I've had a problem with this with most ghost stories of the last 10 years or so where the build-up works and it's actually spooky but when you see what you're up against the fear quickly fades and the classic tropes returns. Still I sort of liked the ending.

My main issue was I wish they would have explained the viewer what was the ghost about.

The best angle possible they should have taken would have been that the mother is really crazy and there are no ghosts.

Wife dragged me out to watch Into the Woods, she failed to mention it was a musical - strike that an opera style musical - my ears actually bled at one point and I tried to asphyxiate on my popcorn but was unsuccessful

Possibly the worst movie I've ever seen in a theatre

I hope you managed to get some sort of reward for it, at least cutting a deal that you'll choose the movie next time.

Looking at this, man the Oscars are gonna suck this year. I have zero interest at seeing any of these or I don't care if any of them loose or win. Except Birdman. And GBH by Wes Anderson was good.

There were a lot of good movies this year actually.

On the Sydney toi Los Angeles plane ride I saw "Hundred Foot Journey", "Wall Street", "Guardians of the Galaxy", and "How to Train your Dragon 2", the first two were very good.

Supposedly good 2014 movies that I have not yet seen:
Calvary
Birdman
Selma
Only Lovers Left Alive
Wild
Whiplash
Raid 2

lol ...

[little interest in seeing Boyhood]

Wall Street was a confusing film actually.

All I had heard of that movie was "greed is good" and "Gordon Gekko". I was expecting the movie to be a celebration of greed. It was ... not. The movie's arc is that family and love are more important than greed, and indeed they triumph over greed. That's how it seems to end, and it also seems extremely heavy handed, such that I'm not sure anybody could be confused.

Yet the movie is known as a celebration of greed.

I started watching Dexter recently and it's awesome. Halfway through season three right now. Season two was really good and had a smoking babe in Lila.

Season 4 (the Trinity killer) is by far the best season & should have won some awards but was robbed by Mad Men. After season 4 the show started to slip and I didn't even bother with the last season.
