I hear that. I'd love to see us draw Toronto in round one (As long as we win).

Unless Montreal or Boston end up laying an egg it's not happening.

The chances of Toronto and Ottawa meeting anywhere but the conference finals are few and far between.

I see it as possible for Boston considering the ridiculous amount of games they are going to be playing to catch up to everyone (in an already condensed season). They only have 1 break longer than 1 day left (it's at the end of march). We have 5 of them, 3 of which in April. They are also playing a greater % of their games against teams currently in the playoffs

To be honest, the East is wide open in my opinion.

I respect the hell out of what Montreal is done, I just don't know if they're as good as their record indicates. They could very well continue this place and be a cup contender, but I see them slipping to a more "middle of the pack level".

Pittsburgh is one of the teams to beat for sure, and while it's hard to think of any team that has the same offensive firepower as the Pens, after watching Marc Andre Fleury against the Flyers last week, a series like he had last year would knock the Pens out of the playoffs for sure. No matter how good your team is, you need your goalie to give you a .900 SP or you're not going to go very far.

Boston should win the conference IMO. They're number 1 IMO when factoring in forwards, defence, and goaltending. They've played really well, but we'll see if they can keep it up.

Carolina is playing awesome for sure, not sold on their back end.

Toronto is Toronto, they look like the playoffs should be easily attainable but you never know.

New Jersey is falling, fast. Really fast. Watched a game last week, they looked so bad. Dunno how they always make the playoffs.

Rangers were my early pick to win, but they've sucked giant dong so far. 8th place is really bad for them. They should be with Boston and Pittsburgh.

I've always loved sports club stats near the end of the season to see how likely you are playing different teams.

The big thing is that the Toronto Maple Leafs have a 92.6% chance of making the playoffs. They really need to blow it to miss out. I'm actually excited about that.

The Chicago Blackhawks have a >70% chance of making the playoffs EVEN if they go 4-17-1. That's pretty amazing.

this is the leafs we're talking about. Dont put anything past them.

last year they had a 90% chance about 70% of the way through the season. Then the wheels came off: http://www.sportsclubstats.com/2011-2012/NHL/Eastern/Northeast/Toronto_ChanceWillMakePlayoffs.html

if our options are boston/montreal/toronto, pittsburgh, or SE winner (likely carolina), i take carolina every time.

Dear Lord it would suck to have to play against Pitt or Boston. However Pitt can't keep the puck out of their net so with Ottawa's good goaltending it would actually be a interesting match up. Now that I am thinking more about it, Pitt might now be that bad after all (damn Crosby).

If we are still looking at 55 then to hit that teams need to get (in points per game)

Pittsburgh 0.61
Montreal 0.65
Boston 0.66
Ottawa 1
Carolina 1.14
Winnipeg 1.21
Toronto 1.21
New Jersey 1.21

NYR 1.28
NYI 1.30
Philadelphia 1.47
Tampa Bay 1.50
Washington 1.52
Buffalo 1.55
Florida 1.84

it's starting to look closer to 54, maybe even 53 points as the cutoff.

something in the vicinity of 8-10-1 should sneak us into 8th. 9-8-2 for ~6th. And something crazy like 15 wins to get home ice unless the habs/bruins take a dive.

Home ice looks tough. 6th looks VERY doable, and as mentioned already, that gets us a favorable matchup against the Canes or Jets. As of tonight, even 52 points was showing as better than57% to get you 8th. 53 points is 81% to get you in, while 54 points is basically a lock.

Honestly at this point the only team I'm really afraid of playing is Pittsburgh. This team is very resilient...even Pittsburgh because of what happened earlier in the season might bring something special out of our team.

Buffalo 1.55
Florida 1.84

Doing this again, except this time instead of 55, I will make the magic number 50 (highest point total a non-playoff team could get playing .500 hockey)

Pit .125
Mtl .278
Wpg 1.00
Bos .368
Ott .625
Tor .882
NJ .941
Car 1.00

NYR 1.00
Was 1.24
NYI 1.24
Buf 1.29
Phi 1.28
TB 1.35
Fla 1.53

So if NYR finishes with PPG hockey, then we need to get .625 points per game (10) to tie them. I believe the worst record that beats that (11 pts) is 0-5-11.
