He's a guy that's come in the league and hasn't earned respect. It's just frustrating to see a young guy like that come in here and so much as think that he's better than a lot of people. You have to earn respect in this league. It takes a lot. You can't just come in here as a rookie and play like that. It's not the way to get respect from the other players around the league. Hopefully someone on his team addresses it, because, uh, I'm not saying I'm going to do it but something might happen to him if he continues to be that cocky.

(I hope someone understand this reference before anyone jumps all over me.)

This is in reference to what Mike Richards said about Subban, right?

Heh.

Sorry OhHeyHemmer....I wasn't aware of the reference.

Sometimes I need sarcasm smilies hanging around in some posts, especially ones that reference what others have said.

My apologies.

No worries. I left the only hint in white. There was a specific poster on these boards that it was facetiously aimed towards, so I deliberately left out the sarcasm emoticon.

Would've fit the situation for a number of other Oilers related events the past few years (Eberle against Calgary, Yakupov against LA etc)

I think it's time for new glasses.

Didn't even see the part in white.

Hey Oilers, sorry to Barge in, just curious to hear how Draisaitl has looked and if he is staying With the big boys?

I thought hes looked good. Whens hes looked good, hes looked REALLY good. Whens hes looked "bad" hes looked invisible, but not necessarily being a liability out there, just unnoticeable.

And yes, he will make the team. Unfortuantly this was a forgone conclusion from draft day (and probably earlier than that). But I think hes played well enough to make the NHL, just not a 2c level player yet. Plus with his recent chemistry with Yak (who seems to be the only guy to do so), his value increases

Looked really smart and physically ready. Very very good passing. Shot has potential but needs work as does his skating but his smarts allow him to be decent defensively so far. Yes he will be with the oilers and will likely receive sheltered minutes. Behind arcobello which would be good if it wasn't arcobello.

Ive been impressed with his positioning so far, especially for his age. At least when he isn't having a fantastic night offensively he doesn't shirk defensive responsiblity.

Very tough to tell. You can see ability for sure. He will be like a lot of the oiler offensive players (other than hall who can generate on his own).

If the opposing team has an off night or does not make the oilers deviate from their game he will rack up points and look good. If the other teams play their game he will have troubles.

The big tests will come on the road when the oilers can't match lines and the other team sends their A centers out vs him. It will be education time.

Totally agree...but the flip side on that is that it will leave the RNH line with the B and C centers to contend with, so the opposition can't have their cake and eat it too. Then it becomes a competition of which top line can capitalize on soft opposition the most.

Anybody else think Draisaitl has the potential to become better than Nugent-Hopkins in the future?

Yes. He already plays like a bigger RNH. The only thing lacking is skating. RNH is super elusive with elite edge work, so Draisaitl has a ways to go in this area, but he has a shot

Eh. I wouldn't say that, at least not yet anyways. His skating, or lack thereof when he's in the offensive zone near the boards still needs a lot of work. RNH is still superior in several facets of the game, and likely always will be. Shot, skating, vision(arguable, but RNH's is starting to get underrated) and driving the play. Draisaitl may catch him in some of these regards, but I'll bet my hat on RNH staying 1C.

I kind of wish we had a different style center on our 2C, but a RNH with more size is nothing to scoff at.

I have no issues with having 2 pass first intelligent centers. I think this is the best characterstic for a center to have as they have the ability to command the entire ice and be able to move the puck efficiently. Shoot first centers good with skating north and south may be good at getting the puck to the net, but they lack the ability to properly distribute and control the puck. RNH and Draisaitl have the ability to do that, which is huge. Both have insanely high hockey IQs which is something you cant teach.

What ever advantage Draisaitl has in size and puck protection, RNH has is speed and agility. There is an outside shot Draisaitls skating increases to a good level (ste bellows RNHs). But almost no chance RNH develops Draisaitls statue

Draisaitl could be a better player then Nuge but I don't think he will ever score as many goals. Nuge has great passing but a good shot as well. Draisaitl has an OK shot but amazing passing so ya, they will both succeed but in different ways

What do you mean? He just scored an amazing goal. What's wrong with that? His behaviour was standard.

Strange comparison if you mean to say that a toe-drag for a SH goal is somehow rookie dis-respect. I think you need to take that one off the list.

Nuge's edges are world class and he needs them to create space.
Leon probably will never be able to elude defenders in that same manner but he can definitely use his size to create space and shield the puck.

If he works hard and continues to get better, my hopes are a Thornton like career path where he gets to the point where he can use talented wingers to get 65-85* assists in a season!!!! Ohh how sweet that would be.
