PHILADELPHIA FLYERS -- UNITED STATES PREMIER HOCKEY LEAGUE

See, there is a team playing at the Virtua Skate Zone here known as the Philadelphia Flyers that plays in the brand new United States Premier Hockey League.

What’s that league, you might ask?

The USPHL is uniquely positioned in the Atlantic region to facilitate a clear pathway for players graduating from Bantam hockey looking to progress through Midget and Junior Hockey on to college and pro hockey.

The USPHL will operate with 5 divisions – Premier, Elite and Empire at the Junior Level and 16U and 18U at the Midget level.

Each division provides a step in the progression to fulfilling a player’s ultimate goal of becoming a collegiate or professional hockey player.

Teams have been selected to participate in specific USPHL divisions based upon geography, strong player pools, rink ownership, financial strength and history of success and integrity at the highest level.

It looks like the Phantoms moved at the right time, because the Adirondack Flames are apparently a Western Conference team this coming season. Not that it has a major influence on scheduling, but it's still pretty dumb.

I'm so happy they're here this season because I'll probably get a chance to see Stolarz, Laughton, Hagg, and Gostisbehere in person. So lucky they moved so incredibly close to me.

Probably because Abbortsford was a Western team. Probably wouldn't have happened if the Phantoms stayed there. Still really dumb though.

Hell yeah. Not to mention the fact that I can DVR/watch all the home games (not sure about them broadcasting away games) as well.

In that one picture of Morin he looks *intellectually disabled*

Hagg's hat is, well I don't know. Tall?

Love the size though. Big strong athletes. What more could you want.

I know who it is but would it be a huge surprise if one sneaks their way onto the team? I am not banking on it but wouldn't be blown away if one makes the opening roster to begin the year.

But after what we heard from Hexy I doubt any of them make the team. They would need to absolutely kill camp and preseason. I have a feeling Ghost will be the guy if that happens but I think it will take an injury mid way through the season to see a call-up.

I'll put it this way, I wouldn't be blown away if Morin makes many fans feel VERY strongly about keeping him on the roster.

I would be fairly blown away if Hextall actually allows it, though.

It's going to take nothing short of a perfect training camp+preseason for Morin to make it I think.

I took Hexy's comments into consideration but I want to say Hagg might have a sneaky chance to find a spot. He has the tools but it probably would be better for all if they spend the next year developing.

Hextall said he would move a defenseman (probably Grossmann) if one of the young guys "knocks us over the head" at camp.

Answering why bring in Schultz as a 7th Dman, will it be keeping a young player from getting a crack:

First of all, if young guy comes in and knocks us over the head, I’ll make a move. It’s easy to move a defenseman. I’m not concerned about that. What I was more concerned with was leaving that spot there, and HAVING to bring in a kid. I don’t want a kid sitting the bench….I want to develop these kids at the pace and the right time and bring em in when they’re ready. It’s a long season. Players get hurt and if a players gotta go to the minors, even for a month because we’ve got 7 defensemen, too damn bad.

That would get them under the cap and they could bring up Ghost or Morin or Alt once Pronger goes on LTIR on the last day of camp. I think Hagg is the least likely to make the roster out of camp.

I'm still curious what Hagg will do for next season in regards to where he'll play? I'm sure the Flyers & his agent would rather him not potentially get lost in the shuffle over in Sweden again but ultimately it comes down to Hagg & "home is home".

“We added a few pretty good players, “said Hextall. “But our kids are also a year older and we have some good prospects going into there for their first year, so by virtue of all those things I think we’ll be much more competitive”

In addition to being just one phone call away from Philadelphia, potential Flyers are now just 75 minutes away. When the organization’s minor league team was just across the parking lot from the NHL club there was no better place to play in the AHL, enabling the Flyers management to pack the Phantoms roster to Calder Cups in 1998 and 2005, the lockout season. The organization wants to create the same level of buzz in Allentown, both in the stands and in the team rooms.

“Sightlines were good [at the Glens Falls Civic Center] and, considering our [lame duck] status, so was the support,” said Phantoms’ coach Terry Murray.

“But we had with a weight room that could only hold five players at a time. The place was just kind of worn out.

“The owners took us to Allentown for a tour last year, when the building was far enough along that we could have a good feel for what the facilities are going to be like. The dressing room is going to be tremendous, with a weight room and a lounge that will be the best there is outside the NHL. We’ll have a room where players will want to hang out to watch a movie or play video games.

“Paul Holmgren wanted to have better teams in Adirondack, but I know it was hard to get good veteran AHL players to go there because of the facilities and the distance.

“The location change does even more than cut down our travel. It was more difficult for managers and scouts to get to Glens Falls to watch a game. I notice a big difference in body language of players when scouts and development coaches are watching. [NHL front office personnel] will be able to see Flyer and Phantom games on the same day.”

I am pretty excited for Phantoms this season. But, sadly I am going to college down south so... I will not be able to catch many live games if at all.

I'm cautiously optimistic that he'll stay over here. After his stint with the Phantoms it sounded like he liked the North American game and felt comfortable playing over here. It would be nice to hear something definite though.

I was at the camp today - and yeah, Morin is huge, and strong. But he still needs to refine his cuts and footwork. The windup on his slapshot is still looking a little slow, but this probably isn't the best place to judge some of these things.

Hagg is probably physically ready for the NHL, and his individual skills are pretty good, but it's putting it together for him that seems to be the problem. I think out of everyone, he would suffer the most from being rushed to the NHL.

Gostisbehere's puck skills and skating are way ahead of any of our other prospects. His passing was incredibly crisp and clean, and the way he was receiving passes was just as good. He looks the most poised to make the team just based on how refined his skill set is at this point in time - but his weight may hold him back. We'll see.

Maybe this explains it:

Anthony Mingioni @AnthonyMingioni
“@nsahockey2013: @AnthonyMingioni how is Morins'foot he was in walking boot during playoffs” moving ok at times, other times: gingerly.

Re: last tweet. This is Morin's first time on ice since the Q playoffs. Gingerly movment is to be expected. #Flyers
