I agree. If not much changes and they're still comfortably in a playoff spot leading up to the deadline, do nothing. Trading away key players would not look good to the fan base, and marketing the game is the most important thing. Getting in the playoffs and maybe making some noise is key. I suppose if you are 100% sure a guy like Neal or Perron won't re-sign, then you may need to deal him....maybe.That’s not going to but you much at all, and the team is literally only lacking a 1C or top pairing D. I find that a pointless venture.
Just leave it as it is.Should the VGK be buyers or seller at the trade deadline? What will they do with Neal, Perron and Marchessault? Do you think there's a chance all three would resigned with Vegas or is it better for the franchise to trade them and get draft picks? I hope they keep Marchessault he's still young only 27, him and Karlsson are playing so well together its a thing a beauty to watch
i don't think vegas will be buyers. don't think they should be either. go into the playoffs with what got you there. it'll be fun to watch!
Neal was one of the first guys to say he wants to stay in Las Vegas long term, it was really early. I'm guessing he'll be reasonable when it's time to talk money.
I agree that there's really nothing reasonable worth trading Neal for at this point. I said earlier today I'd be okay with a 19-20 year old prospect and a 1st, but I don't even know if I'd take that right now. Late first? Meh.
I don't think this is necessarily true. Our top 6 has more or as much chemistry with each other than any team in the league. Disrupting things in the forward group could be too disruptive. I can see a move for a good bottom 6 guy or a strong bottom pairing defenseman but overall I don't think McPhee has much reason to feel pressure to break this roster up in any way.I think the marketing angle is a bit inflated. GMGM cares not about that, nor should he. His job is to win, period. Just like Turk has to put his best lines on the ice, regardless of contract (Shippy?). GMGM has probably been banging the phones regularly between other GMs and his players' agents and knows his direction more than we do. I'm preparing for a mix of disappointment (in losing a player I like) and surprise (in gaining picks and/or other players).
We should just save 12-13 mil in cap space for when Karlsson and Doughty hit the market in two seasons
I don't think the knights want Goligoski. He has not been good. OEL has been meh too. Maybe getting out of the festering pit that is the coyotes helps them though.I don't like the question.
On the one hand, it suggests the team might sacrifice the future for the present, which is patently absurd for the expansion team. The team isn't going to take on any short-term UFA rentals in exchange for giving away its picks or prospects.
On the other hand, it's clear the team would buy a longer-term contract at the trade deadline from a nonplayoff team looking at blowing themselves up and going full rebuild if the deal made sense beyond this season (OEL on a sign-extension-and-trade deal or maybe Goligoski).
So, really there is no light shed by asking the question. Instead, the question should be:
To sell or not to sell? And if not to sell, then... To re-sign before the playoffs or risk losing as a UFA this summer? James Neal! David Perron! Luca Sbisa!
(Of course, this means LeBrun and the other Canadian media would have to actually talk about Vegas players instead of speculate about where more media-heavy team players might be heading.)
