Lansdowne is far from horrible.

It's very safe and boring, sterile even (typical North American development really), but I have no idea how you could honestly believe it is horrible.

Anyone who sees it for the first time comments on how bare and sterile it looks. They could use a few trees or plants or shrubs. It looks too much like the Train yards.

The stadium is great though.

The restaurants are all chains and the food is mediocre.

They originally wanted an aquarium but Clive Doucet ridiculed the idea
of having a "fish tank".

Isn't there supposed to be a bar with 100 taps opening at some point? That will be a bigger draw than what's currently there.

Whole Foods is also pretty damn busy.
Whole foods is a cool place and would definitely be supported by locals. I don't see it being a destination for others from outside of the core though. Lansdowne right now is not the type of place where you would want to spend your afternoon except if you were going to a game and still other than eating and drinking it's very limited with what you can do.

The farmer's market is kind of a letdown too. When they moved it to Carleton University/Brewer Park it actually became a lot better. A really great place to go on a Sunday morning. Had a real market feel to it. Now it's just stalls and concrete. No atmosphere. It was crappy before though being in the parking lot but the way they marketed it it was like it was going to be a fixture.

The Devcore has a ton more cool 'stuff', but it's pretty disjointed I think. Kind of like the put 100 ideas in a hat and pulled 12 out and threw them in because they could.

The Rendezvous bid has a cool arena and all, but seems like a lot of condos.

It will be interesting to see what plays out with both these bids and whih way the NCC goes.

But, at the very least, Lebreton will eventually become something, and likely the Sens new home it would seem, so yay for Ottawa! Woohoo us!

Condos are a very important part imo. You need to have a community there to take advantage the era and support the businesses. Something Sparks Street really needs.

If the team stays in Kanata he will end up selling it because like you said he is going to lose half his concerts to Lebreton.

One has to think that the other bid shot themselves in the foot by including an arena in their bid? I see where they are coming from, where they're trying to force Melnyk's hand to either sell the team or accept a lease into a downtown arena. However without an NHL team playing in the downtown arena, one would think that the arena would be severely underutilized, making Melnyk's bid the most sensible one.
