Korshkov is waiver exempt so it’s more likely they keep a Timashov or Agostino over Korshkov.

They want to be a close to the Cap as possible on day 1, put players on LTIR and then revamp the roster. It wouldn't surprise me if players are put on waivers who are immediately brought back up (assuming unclaimed) and if players are kept up just for initial cap implications and then sent down immediately.

For instance assuming :

F(10) - Johnsson, Matthews, Nylander, Kapanen, Tavares, Marner, Kerfoot, Moore, Goat, Spezza
D(5) - Rielly, Muzzin, Barrie, Ceci, Marincin
G(2) - Freddie and Hutch
(plus Kessel money)

The final 6 (for cap implications) could be:

Timashov, Korsh, Mik, Lilly, Petan and Wilson (gets them to within $2857 of the cap)
Waivers: Shore, Ago, Gravel, Holl
Sent down: Sandin and Marchment

People would freak out for a couple hours, but then once they place the players on LTIR they would just make the proper adjustments.

If they want to ensure they don't lose, say Holl, on waivers - as he might be needed as the scratch when Dermott and Hyman are back then they could go:

Korsh, Mik, Sandin, Shore, Ago, Holl (gets them to within $3967 of the cap) - but then Timashov is placed on waivers.

I can't get to a 23 player roster that is both close to the cap and includes both Timashov and Holl - and I pretty much always need both Korsh and Mik to get real close to the cap in almost every scenario, even though that results in putting more players through waivers.

3 goals in 70 games last year. I lean to the over as well. I think the signing of Spezza was a wake up call for him.
well ,
lets not forget that in may 2017 he tore his ligament clean off his muscle and was shelved for half a year.

that has got to set back the development of such a big boy.

Not convinced of that

Well you should be. Goat is a lock also. Thats our puck possession demons on the fourth line when they are winning career highs in faceoffs taking them on their strong sides this season. This team is going to be possession beasts

It’s not about “embarrassment” in pro hockey. It’s what is best for the team. Spezza is a big boy and he can handle a demotion. He was demoted to the fourth line in Dallas and accepted it.

Spezza at this stage of his career is strictly a power play and faceoff specialist. However it’s debatable whether the leafs need someone in that role on the second PP unit. If not they’d be better off using a PK guy in the fourth line center role.

Shore, Petan, Timashov, Gauthier and Agostino have all outplayed Spezza in camp. Even Matt Read has looked better at times.

The guy might be done as a pro. No gas left in the tank. His skating was always mediocre but is now clearly a liability.

He’s not getting demoted. Spezza is easily on this team. This is not a tryout for him, its a chance to rap his head around his fourth line role.

Nothing stopping him from being a Dominic Moore... Lost his job to Gauthier and then Plekanec.

It could just happen a whole lot earlier for Spezza.

Joke if Dubas remains with the organization for longer than a few days after this.
