We say that every year about him. Seriously. I’m in wait and see mode.

what exactly do you want??

i want a big body that plays safe 4th line C and i don't care if he gets points,

frankly, i would very much proffer that he does not or he will price himself out of town

seeing that our big boys have forced a 700k only 4th line on us.

here is something,,as best as i can tell our 4th line in the POs did not give up a 5 v 5 GaG.

if my 700k 4th line C can keep his line even, then i am thrilled

because it's up to those hogging all the cap to be the difference makers.

Did petan look good last night? Still interested to see who they start at that 4th line LW between Petan,Timashov and Korshkov.

Spezza took a discount to come here. Dubas and Spezza know what's up Babcock too.

They won't embarrass him at this stage of the season. Hell Marleau was **** and played more than Matthews in game 7.

It’s not about “embarrassment” in pro hockey. It’s what is best for the team. Spezza is a big boy and he can handle a demotion. He was demoted to the fourth line in Dallas and accepted it.

Spezza at this stage of his career is strictly a power play and faceoff specialist. However it’s debatable whether the leafs need someone in that role on the second PP unit. If not they’d be better off using a PK guy in the fourth line center role.

Shore, Petan, Timashov, Gauthier and Agostino have all outplayed Spezza in camp. Even Matt Read has looked better at times.

The guy might be done as a pro. No gas left in the tank. His skating was always mediocre but is now clearly a liability.

Big games for Shore, Holl and Gravel. Checking to see if Korshkov's good game was just a blip. 4th line role this time. No fancy toe drags etc. I love the way he robbed that Sens D man and scored a pretty skilled goal. He's probably playing for a first call up though.

So you thought he was good last year?

I want Moore types, they still make a difference despite limited minutes.

Gauthier was literally invisible for long stretches last year. Zero hands, zero jam, zero forecheck, meh P.K., just a body. Now suddenly he’s trying to salvage his career in camp and I’m supposed to forget?

He has had a good camp. I’ll give him another chance, but I’ve seen this routine before. Let’s see if he can keep it going...

not to put any undue pressure on him but Nylander really needs to score tonight, and I'm not talking about after game at RealSports

Biggest test for Nylander (in my opinion) will be showing Babcock he should be on the ice with 10 minutes or less left in the third and not swapped for Connor Brown equivalents. He doesn't need to convince Babcock he can put up 70 points in the top 6. Babs knows that already.

I understand the context of your comment though. Based on last season and the fact he could have had 4-5 goals in the Buffalo game, it would be nice to see him pot one tonight.

Korshkov is waiver exempt so it’s more likely they keep a Timashov or Agostino over Korshkov.

We need players like the goat to flourish in a low-value way with the cap structure on our team. He's near perfect for the 4c role and hopefully he just becomes steady and we lock him up for 4yrs near bottom market value.

Asking to be more than a warm body is hardly unrealistic. I’ll try to keep an open mind, he’s looked passable in camp so...
no offence but passing as a warm body in your rookie season is not a bad thing

we have no idea exactly what "role/how to play",,,,, babs asked of him

for all we know, he did exactly as the coach asked, "play it safe, don't let the line become a liability"

as i stated before, IIRC the goats line did not give up a 5 v 5 gag in the POs,,,i can live with that from a 7ook rookie C

he stayed out of the box and finished a +1 ,

I wish he spent more time in the box and I mean that in a good way.
