I've said this before, but I need to say it again. I used to talk crap about Hyman several years ago when Babcock would play him as much as he did. He's showing why Babcock loved him so much. What a fantastic and hard working player he is. He puts in 100% effort every single game. Was beautiful on the PK as well. Just a very underrated player.

Matthews and Marner do their thing... and Nylander has the game winner, I love it.

Not so happy about Tavares and his game. Lots of sloppy turnovers and just looks so out of it. I mean he did have some big face-off wins near the end of the game, but beyond that? Didn't like his game at all.

Andersen was good too.

Great victory.

Completely agree. I felt the same way about Hyman but these last two years he's shown legit offensive ability. He's not just a passenger anymore.

And I agree about Tavares. He's been pretty disappointing all year to be honest. Still a very good player with lots of good years left obviously, but I can't help but think he might be starting to regress a bit from the elite level he's played at for years. Historically at 29 years old you've seen your peak years already.

Willie has more goals than assists. I thought he was supposed to be a better play maker than goal scorer. Hopefully he can help Johnny get out of his funk soon.

He's clearly got a role and he's decent at that role. Unfortunately that role just doesn't ever look good on the scoresheet or with advanced stats. There's a reason guys like Roman Polak are still in the league going strong despite everyone claiming they're trash. If hockey was as simple as just playing the six d-men with the highest Corsi rating then coaches would have been doing that years ago.

Ceci has looked 10x better than Polak did.

Heck, Id say Ceci has been more physical than Polak was. Polak couldnt throw open body checks to save his live. He was just nasty along the boards

ceci looked 10x better than heiskanen that game. Should be a lesson for leaf fans who expect too much out of players

It's not just the wins, but the process. Two tighter, grind out wins. A healthier team certainly helps and Andersen has been solid as we are accustomed to.

Agreed. I want no part of Polak on this team :)

My point is just there is still value for that type of penalty killing specialist in the league which is why most teams deploy one despite most metrics we have screaming at us how awful they are.

The big difference with Hyman under Keefe is the sense of entitlement is gone. That drove me nuts about Babcock! He’d crap on any player that wasn’t playing up to his standard but Hyman would always get a free pass. I think it created a lot of unfair fan resentment toward Hyman. He’s playing better now under Keefe imo and the lack of entitlement has gained him more fans. Including me.

muzzin looks to be a must re-sign.

Without question.

If you are accepting the fact the team is top heavy in salary up front, you absolutely needs a veteran presence on the blue lines who has won in this league. He will take younger guys under his wing, hopefully rub off with his effort and commitment.

Players to a man all want a solid D man they can rely on. When you see a guy sacrifice to win, it shows that you can win in different ways, it doesn't have to be on the scoresheet. This is what every team needs.

Leafs have him under their control right now. He wants to stay. Make it happen Dubas. It will save you alot of headache down the road.
