I'm honestly not even sure what the problem is defensively with this team. Yes, Gardiner, Franson have been porous pretty much all season, and to a lesser extent Rielly and Gunnarsson have been as well. Up front they seem like a complete gongshow. The forwards can't seem to get a puck out to save their lives and they lose puck battles all over the place too.

So I guess I'm wondering how does Dave Nonis go about fixing what seems to be largely team wide issue of poor defensive play?

Ok.

But the defense isn't as bad as we saw on Thursday night. We also probably shouldn't be deciding Jake Gardiner's future on one game at NYI after a 2 1/2 week break either.

The defensive frailties of this team have got as much to do with the forwards as the 6 or 7 guys who play behind them.
