Pavelec 1 year $1.3 mil would have been something I would have considered. $1.3 mil verses $850k seems like a reasonable +$450k spent.

If Andersen gets hurt (knock on wood he doesn't) then a former starter might be a better insurance blanket then McE.

I don't know, every time I have watched Pavelec he looked lost out there. Looks like he took a pay cut to go to NYR a system that helps and develops goaltenders.

we know our players play infront of mcbackup though, they have confidence infront of him, which alone can offset skill that another goalie may have above him.

i dont mind the signing at all.

In hindsight very wise decision of the Leafs to not trade that 1st. This season may live or die on Andersens healthy

Happy that McBackup is back. After that Pittsburgh game I have a lot of faith in him, and he performed as a backup admirably.

Mcbackup is pretty good, I don't mind this at all.

Sparks on the other hand, I just don't see it.

Very happy with McBackup's cap hit given how well he played last year. If he can give us 20-25 games at .500, he will be well worth it.

No problem with this move at all. McBackup gave us everything you can ask for last season.

Really glad they gave him a 2 year. Guy is a terrific leader and pro, to get him for 850k on a multi-year deal is a great deal. Seeing other backups getting 2+ mill is just not worth it.

If the Leafs had McElhinney for all of last year they would have touched 100pts. Can't ask for much more from a backup.

If he can repeat what he did last year in terms of play this contract is a steal - no guarantee that happens though so fingers crossed
